While Asta's is dumbfounded or speechless, we transition in the half of the episode to Yami's story of how he first met William Vangeance. Before the episode preview was shown, I didn't think they had a rivalry. It didn't feel like one.
With the episode preview, it establishes that we are entering an arc to flesh out Yami and William's relationship.
Mereoleona arrive to retrieve or kidnap in a comedic sense the chosen mages for the Royal Knights: Asta, Noelle, and Luck. Finral is also one but he's recovering. In his place, is another mage with similar powers.
A big reveal - Zora is a Black Bull. Fitting since he's trouble maker just like everyone else.
Raia's flashback didn't really click in with me. Licht's wife looks like Mimosa.
We get backstory on Henry who has been a long time Black Bull member. Yami never introduced him either, but at least this one had a reason. Anyone who approaches Henry gets their magic sucked even more. Except Asta. He is alive thanks to the guild providing him mana in the house. His story would be sadder than Finral's because basically, his family abandoned him to die. No, Black Clover didn't want to show that.
Missed opportunity there.
A big CG fight ensues
It was a good episode
Henry breaks the mold because he's not a troublemaker or a loner. Yami just added him because he didn't want to take someone's home after someone died in it.
It was pretty much one sided. While we introduced Mana Skin during Mereoleona's training camp at the volcano, we introduced a higher level technique, Mana Zone which is using the Mana in the air to increase your stats such as reaction, speed, strength and spells
There was some good animation that looked like the time from Vetto's fight. The fight was pretty short or maybe it will continue in the next episode
Anyways, we get another glimpse of Raia's relationship with Licht. I don't get why he's "disloyal" for his title
I hope it's not another attempt to make us sympathize like how it failed for me for Vetto's death
The name of the episode and his backstory were all death flags. Granted backstories for Black Bulls and within Crystal tournament were for building characters. Poor Julius dies because he has to protect his people
It feels weird because both Licht and Julius used up a lot of mana for a spell that covered the entire Clover Kingdom. Licht was able to still move. He either had more mana or Julius's time magic reverse not only the spell but Licht too
Going to miss Julius since he and Asta represent that mages could be mages not by their nobility but by their merits.
Licht used the same magic that killed his people. Weird karma
Can't think of any con for this episode
Julius was holding back because he couldn't harm Vangeance's body. He was trying to capture Licht. I can't tell if he was being more careless.
Actually one con was in the animation. Animation was great. Choreography depends if you combat. It was more Julius dodging Licht's attacks. They used CG for the simplified background of the castle parts that were torn apart.
Was trying to keep track of all anime discussion threads I comment on
For this episode, a lot happen
Julius is still dying and Yami calls for help. They really take a long time to get a medic. Bit of bad writing here since Julius still had a long time to talk to Yami about meeting him and everything. I think Julius might appoint Yami as the new Wizard King. Out of all the Magic Knights shown, Yami is the most capable despite his personality quirks.
Weirdest thing happen next - we find another person who looks like Licht.
And Yuno grew elf ears. No hints but I think the folks who wield four leaf clovers might be elf exclusive
The significant plot point was Fuegeleon (I have trouble spelling and remembering these names) waking up and he has the spirit of fire, Salamander which allowed him to defeat the elven vice captain.
The episode adds a lot of foreshadowing which I don't see in Black Clover usually. Shonen anime adaptations can do this because they have the manga source material. There's something special about royalty that separates them from commoners in this franchise as well as "awakening" for mages.
Dream: My second Funi poll is done. Titles I will be watching and reviewing will include Chobits, Samurai Champloo, Spice and Wolf, Gankutsuou, and Dance in the Vampire Bund. Will let folks know which one I start off tomorrow at some point.

Dream: First anime I will sample among the Funi titles is Chobits. As a heads up, the series on Funi's Youtube channel is missing the two recap episodes the series aired. Not that I'll be missing those however.

Dream: Wow, never knew Shinbo was Gil, Sousuke, and Domon. More you know.

Dream: Will post a little later what the next voted anime will be that I will watch and review.

Dream: Next anime up to cover will be Dance in the Vampire Bund. Suppose a short anime will do for now following Chobits.

Dream: Concluding things at episode 2 with Vampire Bund for the night. Hoping to get back to Basquatch tomorrow, as long as I'm not swamped with anything.

Taka: I'll email the receipts. The best anime and manga of 2019 will be extended to Wed. I don't get time off for Mon because of community service. Please vote if you haven't yet. Thank you!

Dream: Hmmmm... looks like the version of Vampire Bund I'm seeing on Funi's YouTube channel's an edited version. A couple minutes of episode 2 were clearly removed with Mina in nothing but underwear battling human assassins. Then again, recall there was a good...

Dream: Not sure if I should be donning the nostalgia goggles or not giving a damn. Looks like the original Digimon Adventure series is getting a reboot airing starting in the Spring season.
Jan 21, 2020 3:21:13 GMT
Taka: I'll watch it if there's nothing catching my eye in Spring. winter 2020 was a weak anime season for me.

Dream: Wouldn't say it's all bad for me. Have a few titles holding my interest. Just it typically doesn't have as many major titles of note that would hold me over.

Dream: Done with Vampire Bund. Will be working on a review of it before I hop into the next Funi series. Hoping to get it up either tonight or tomorrow, depending on how lengthy my thoughts get.
