Premise: As a younger man, Jefferson Pierce donned the suit of a vigilante and protected the streets of his city, but he believed he'd left those days in the past. He learns that life doesn't always work out as planned when his daughter, Jennifer -- a star student who is determined to achieve justice at any cost -- gets recruited by a street gang. In order to protect his family, Jefferson sees no choice but to once again become Black Lightning.
I havent' seen all the episodes. I jumped in pretty late so I never seen the first 2 or 3 episodes. I still got on it. I notice with black superhero shows they tend to incorporate real world issues especially those that tie in racial conflicts and identity. I'm not black myself. Asian here. I see the show not trying to be too preachy. It is subtle.
I have not read the comics. I will judge the TV show on its merits.
So far, I find the villain interesting. He was an albino African American. I never seen that before. Black Lightning - he's decent. I haven't grown attached to him yet. In comparison to Static Shock cartoon on Kids WB, he was relatable due to him being a teenager. Black Lightning is an adult. I'm an adult but I can't really find anything similar to relate to other than him helping youth.
I watched today's episode. Gambi and Jefferson made up things as Jefferson didn't want to go ask Gambi for anything. However, he was forced by agents who were forcing Gambi to talk about Black Lightning by threatening to kill Jefferson.
While Jefferson saved Gambi's life, he has given away his secret identity to an astute agent who deduce Jefferson is Black Lightning since there was a black out.
It's a good episode for that relationship. My funny moment was the lady dropping microwaves on Black Lightning in order to collect the bounty. She missed twice.
Finished season 1. The season finale was okay, lots of things were rushed and packed in. They kept Tobias at large for the next season. I don't think the show can't come up with a better villain than Tobias. He's likely to be the end game villain.
The annoying thing I remember was hearing "Make America Great Again" over and over. I know the show tries to be modern and subtlely include similar events to what we had: confederate statues, Neo Nazis, gun violence, police brutality. Some of it feels real and connected with black themes of resilience and empowering
Doing this makes the show feel like it crossed the line for me personally. The sanctioned government group never came out to be over nationalism at all.
Edit: It's hard to describe the feeling when I heard it used in the show.
Dream: Will post a little later what the next voted anime will be that I will watch and review.

Dream: Hmmmm... looks like the version of Vampire Bund I'm seeing on Funi's YouTube channel's an edited version. A couple minutes of episode 2 were clearly removed with Mina in nothing but underwear battling human assassins. Then again, recall there was a good...

Dream: Not sure if I should be donning the nostalgia goggles or not giving a damn. Looks like the original Digimon Adventure series is getting a reboot airing starting in the Spring season.

Taka: I'll watch it if there's nothing catching my eye in Spring. winter 2020 was a weak anime season for me.

Dream: Wouldn't say it's all bad for me. Have a few titles holding my interest. Just it typically doesn't have as many major titles of note that would hold me over.
