So, I realize that I'm a couple weeks late in this realization, but for all those interested in Ryukishi07's work, there is a new installment in the When They Cry series: Ciconia no Naku Koro Ni.
Plot Summary (quoted from the Steam Store page): Though the world was nearly destroyed during World War III, it was saved from a nuclear winter by cutting-edge technology. One hundred years later, this eventually gave rise to the new ultimate military technology, the Gauntlet, which fascinated children all over the world. In this new era, all existing military forces would become obsolete, except for the small number of boys and girls who have what it takes to become a Gauntlet Knight...
The young are supposed to be the main characters in their own eras. But in reality, they're nothing but game pieces lined up on the board for those who are crafty and more experienced. Must these boys and girls be forced to kill each other as pieces? Who are the pieces, and who are the players? And who does the players' bidding? What victory conditions does each person have? Is it peace? War? Annihilation? Is the foretold tragedy a scheme or a delusion, the future or reality?
There is no need to resist this tragedy. The job of a game piece is to dance about within the tragedy's hand.
What are the rules of the game, you ask? How hard is it? That's for us to decide, so it's none of your concern. All you people need to do is take pieces and get taken yourselves, entertaining us with the range of your emotions.
Are you listening? You don't want to misunderstand your position. You aren't my opponent. You're merely a piece that exists for my amusement. In this next game, I won't give you the privilege of being a player!
My Thoughts: Imo, as someone who has played through the Higurashi & Umineko visual novels, this first episode is extremely promising. Hell, I might go so far as to say it might be the best first episode in the series. The writing is as strong as ever, as is the music. The characters are interesting and fun, the setting intriguing, and the mystery more confusing than ever.
I do, however, have to bring up the artwork. Those of you that are used to the updated, improved artwork of the Higurashi and Umineko rereleases may be disappointed to know that the art is more in line with the original releases of those games, which is to say that it's pretty rough, though marginally better than before.

Taka, It's a discussion, I just thought I'd kick it off by sharing my thoughts on it. We can make it Ciconia in general. It won't really make a difference, since there's only one episode out right now and we probably won't get another for months at least.
Dream: Will post a little later what the next voted anime will be that I will watch and review.

Dream: Next anime up to cover will be Dance in the Vampire Bund. Suppose a short anime will do for now following Chobits.

Dream: Concluding things at episode 2 with Vampire Bund for the night. Hoping to get back to Basquatch tomorrow, as long as I'm not swamped with anything.

Dream: Geez, it's really quiet. No activity in the forums since I posted my review from yesterday.

Taka: I'll email the receipts. The best anime and manga of 2019 will be extended to Wed. I don't get time off for Mon because of community service. Please vote if you haven't yet. Thank you!

Dream: Hmmmm... looks like the version of Vampire Bund I'm seeing on Funi's YouTube channel's an edited version. A couple minutes of episode 2 were clearly removed with Mina in nothing but underwear battling human assassins. Then again, recall there was a good...

Dream: ...deal of controversy with the series a decade earlier thanks to the seemingly underaged nudity of Mina while in her younger form.

Dream: Not sure if I should be donning the nostalgia goggles or not giving a damn. Looks like the original Digimon Adventure series is getting a reboot airing starting in the Spring season.

Taka: I'll watch it if there's nothing catching my eye in Spring. winter 2020 was a weak anime season for me.

Dream: Wouldn't say it's all bad for me. Have a few titles holding my interest. Just it typically doesn't have as many major titles of note that would hold me over.

Dream: Done with Vampire Bund. Will be working on a review of it before I hop into the next Funi series. Hoping to get it up either tonight or tomorrow, depending on how lengthy my thoughts get.
