Welcome to the Masamune-kun's Revenge review! There are no spoilers. The anime is an adaptation of a manga series written by Hazuki Takeoka and illustrated by Tiv. It's about Masamune Makabe who has a revenge plan against a girl in his childhood, Aki Adagaki, who protected him from bullies. Masamune was a chubby kid who got bullied for his looks. Despite being friends with Aki, Masamune felt betrayed when Aki rejected him during a love confession and branded him a name, "Pig's Foot." Masamune begins dieting and training as well as change his name while planning his revenge to get Aki to fall in love with him and then reject her.
First of all, this is pretty cliche and predictable as you probably assume romance will develop between Aki and Masamune despite Masamune's ulterior motives for revenge. For most romantic comedic shows, it's usually the first girl that protagonist encounters and falls in love with. Revenge and romance in this fashion tends not to mix well and make a good romantic series. I had mixed feelings about and feel characters might be shallow. The series does a good job of trying to make the audience sympathetic and their characters relatable to some degree. In the end, I personally didn't attach myself nor care for the characters except for the sick girl whose love confession to the protagonist got turned down. The humor in the show is average. I got some good laughs from it. The show milks its comedy from quirks such as Masamune using cliche lines from shojo manga to flirt with Aki.
The show is pretty generic and here are its generic scenes:
Despite the protagonist going to get revenge, he will fall in love with her
The male protagonist forgets his childhood friend whom likes him and still remembers him.
It's easy to tell who's in love with who.
Since everyone has difference tolerance towards fan service, I find it helpful for my readers to list the types of fan service. We have panty shots and then male gaze towards underskirt shots, legs, and cleavage. There are slight gainax bounce scenes.
Since I chose to review this show long after it aired and I had watched during that time, I don't remember the music. It's safe for me to personally say the music is unforgettable.
In the end, the show is pretty average and generic, and it ends on an open note due to the manga being ongoing. They can't really solve the problem and end on a happy note. Nothing was accomplished.
Old Man Dream: ...later titles in the Macross franchise can finally come stateside with all involved parties finally coming to a truce over how to handle things with the Macross trademark and all later anime in the franchise associated with it.

Taka: I see. A global release will benefit it. Gundam did pretty good. The only few franchises that are only popular in Japan but not popular in the west - Yokai Watch comes to mind.

Master Menos: F for Respects. DMX did all his work while suffering from a drug addiction, and I almost never knew until a point. I hope his next life treats him far better.
