Note: This review contains no spoilers. This is also in honor of Christmas Day and is considered my very belated Christmas gift to you all.
On Christmas Eve, three homeless bums find an abandoned baby in a dumpster during their bickering and decide to take her in and embark on the search of her parents based on the few clues that they found near her. During their journey, they also not only run into many obstacles, they also reveal their origins as well as some revelations that they have discovered.
Storyline While the story sounds very straightforward, there are some twists and turns during their journey that not only keeps a mysterious air about the trio and the baby for most of the movie and kept things interesting, but also end up featuring many mishaps within the group that end up not only challenging the group and everyone involved with them, but also supported their origin stories in some matters that are rather shocking and heart-warming after everything about the main group is uncovered. The story ends up being very satisfying on the most part with very few pitfalls to consider aside of this movie heavily using plot conveniences, despite pulling most of them off.
Characters This department turned out to be the meat and potatoes of the movie and it ends up using most of the people featured to the benefit of the main characters involved, especially thanks to the task of trying to get to what was best for the life of Kiyoko the baby while also just being there for some rather crazy moments. Gin is an alcoholic that had a terrible incident involving his finances and his family, but as everything of him is revealed and his remorse shows, he turns out to go from a drunken and beligerint jerk at the start of the movie to being very caring deep down after his past gets visited again an a shocking form. Hana was also very dodgy at first due to his initial decision to keep Kiyoko as his own baby, alongside his selfishness that came along with it at the start of the movie, but after his revelations get to him involving his past as a drag queen cabaret member, he turns out to have the same level of heart as Gin, if not, a bit more thanks to his change of heart. Miyuki was very questionable initially, but as her development touches on why she became a homeless runaway and how she handles the delimma of Gin and Hana's quarreling over keeping or turning in Kiyoko as well as their family problems, she ends up being a very good character in the end.
Pros and Cons The art style is very realistic and well-done (even for a movie that was released in 2003) and features some nice looking backgrounds and locations that fit the designs for the characters perfectly. The animation was also very well done throughout the film with no hiccups to consider and even melded very well with the art style at hand. While not as good as the other departments, the musical score for the movie was handled nicely. Even though this was set between Christmas Eve and New Year's Day, this happens to be very fitting for the seasons without those being acknowledged too much due to the events revolving around kindness and bonding between friends and family while also neatly touching on the concept and struggles of being a homeless person and family-related issues while also neatly touching on said struggles in general.
For the English speakers that prefer dubbed versions, this movie doesn't have a dub at all, which will likely drive away those that only go for those versions. As for the translations, while there are no spelling goofs, a few Spanish speakers about in the movie don't have their dialogue subtitled at all, sadly. There is also some mild breastfeeding nudity for those bothered by that kind of thing.
Final Verdict This movie turned out to be quite the spectacle from beginning to end and it is definitely a fun watch for those that are looking for a more realistic story around any time, not just the holiday season. For that, this movie is an Absolute Beauty and as long as you're comfortable with subbed-only shows and movies, you should be perfectly fine. Now to never be this shamefully late again...
Current Situation: I wanted another excuse to use Enterprise as an avatar again.
Taka: I see. A global release will benefit it. Gundam did pretty good. The only few franchises that are only popular in Japan but not popular in the west - Yokai Watch comes to mind.

Master Menos: F for Respects. DMX did all his work while suffering from a drug addiction, and I almost never knew until a point. I hope his next life treats him far better.
