Note: This is also in honor of the holiday, Walpurgisnacht (The night between April 30th and May 1st) and its origins.
Mary and the Witch’s Flower is an fantasy/adventure movie about a young girl that found a strange flower that ends up granting her magical powers, which lead her into a school where the main staff for it seems to be quite sketchy...
Storyline The story happens to be a very simple adventure tale with magic, but really doesn't pick up from the introductory points until a bit past the halfway point after the introduction to the magical school where the main conflict of the movie is nearby. While the story was handled in a mostly fun way, the pacing was a mix of being slow and dragged out and being quickly paced as it went on from being very exciting in the beginning, to being rather rushed, unfulfilling and very generic by the end of the movie. There were important story points that also felt like they got nonchalantly thrown in, which didn't help the case of the overall story either and a number of deus ex machinas, a few predictable plot conveniences and minimal world building only add on to the problems.
Characters Mary happens to be the only person to have gotten the vast majority of the development, but while she is a very fun and fitting character to the movie, she's also quite bratty and really doesn't grow as a character much even with all of that emphasis on her. The remainder of the characters are basically one-note and far from memorable, including Peter, whom the narrative had abandoned with a face turn from a bully to someone suddenly in good terms with Mary for no good reason.
Pros and Cons The art style happens to be very well done with a mix of cute and strange in case of the creatures that appear in the film alongside the nicely designed appearances of the humans. The animation is also high quality with many fluid moments for some scenes. The musical score is this movie's other immense pro due to how the tracks fit the scenes, especially with the ones from the magical world.
But to point out one other con, all the scenes that used magic are far more like eye candy instead of plot advancement and was hardly used for plot advancement until a point near the climax of the film forward. Dub and Sub Comparison/Evaluation To be honest, you cannot go wrong with either unless you happen to be bothered with the British accents in case of the English Dub, which did all the characters involved quite well like the Japanese Dub did for the subbed version. As for the translation and subbing for the latter version, there are no goofs whatsoever to report.
Final Verdict After checking this out, I admit that it was indeed fun and it looked amazing, but other than that, it's not that strong of a bonfire. It's just a generic ol' magic adventure with serious problems on the character department. For that, this gets the Absolutely Fair rating. If you want to see a fun movie just once, this is one of the movies that fit that criteria, but only if you wish to.
Current Situation: I wanted another excuse to use Enterprise as an avatar again.
Nice and straight to the point review. Agree it was generic, but the animation and soundtrack made it at the very least entertaining enough to watch, but hopefully Studio Ponco makes better movies going forward.
Old Man Dream: ...later titles in the Macross franchise can finally come stateside with all involved parties finally coming to a truce over how to handle things with the Macross trademark and all later anime in the franchise associated with it.

Taka: I see. A global release will benefit it. Gundam did pretty good. The only few franchises that are only popular in Japan but not popular in the west - Yokai Watch comes to mind.

Master Menos: F for Respects. DMX did all his work while suffering from a drug addiction, and I almost never knew until a point. I hope his next life treats him far better.
