IORI It’s hilarious. They writers for the next movie confused the Broly that was basically a mind-controlled zombie with that head device suppressing him that left him only able to grunt or scream Kakarot as his actual self.
Once he broke out of it by going Legendary Super Saiyan, he was speaking full sentences and showing coherent thought. Hell, he wasn’t even obsessed with Goku particularly either once he was freed.
What hurt Broly's potential was the admittedly bad writing in all his movies, especially the sequels. Who the heck thought Bio-Broly was a good idea?
Yeaa, so maybe they decided create a backstory to fix everything they ruined.. But i think it is better to remake the movie rather than create a backstory. They can freely build a good story, char and personality. They should do that i guess. Everything "Legendary" should be a something "big", something great, something precious (hard to explain). And why the heck legendary should be mind controlled?
I even don't remember like what bio-broly. Lol..
Bio-Broly is a Broly clone that got dunked in some toxic stuff and mutated.
Rather than something awesome for a sequel like giving Broly the Legendary SS3 Form he gets in Raging Blast and fighting Late Buu Saga characters like Gotenks, SS3 Goku, Ultimate Gohan, perhaps even Buu etc.
Instead, some genius decided to turn Broly into a walking turd 💩 called Bio-Broly that got punked once more by Goten and Trunks.
They really wasted the whole Legendary Super Saiyan hype they had going for the first movie. Good call on Toriyama noticing the wasted potential here and being involved in the writing of this new reimagining or Broly.

Taka: I see. A global release will benefit it. Gundam did pretty good. The only few franchises that are only popular in Japan but not popular in the west - Yokai Watch comes to mind.
