This will be a short review. Had a chance to watch this movie when I saw this in Crunchyroll. It has been so long since I finished the anime series. It's not common to get anime films of TV series.
First off, I don't read the manga, so I won't make any comparisons. My first thoughts before I watched the film was it was non canon. Turns out I believe the film takes place after the anime due to Kaiga going to America at the end.
The film is mostly fan service as we have the Phantom of Miracles all on one team. That never happened in the anime series. The motive or personal interest that help bring them back together for this dream team and dream match was a bit weak considering their opponents were an American Street basketball team that acted quite racist. It felt jarring to hear one of them to call people monkeys or remark how fast for an Asian.
Yes there is racism still in the world. I felt it was a bit exaggerated.
Other than that, the film is short, so it is natural to assume they can't spotlight everyone on Kuroko's team. We just gave special time to Kise and Atsushi. Granted, Akashi had a special duel with Nash Gold due to their similar ability. He was overshadowed by the other two. They never got to use their reserve members.
Overall, it is a film for people who enjoyed Kuroko's Basketball. I won't recommend to new people who haven't seen the anime due to the content.
