KING's RAID: Successors of the Will
Aliases: KING's RAID: Ishi wo Tsugu Monotachi Studio: Sunrise Beyond, OLM Adaptation: Mobile Game Genres: Action, Adventure, Magic, Fantasy Episodes: ? Release Date: October 2020 Streaming: ,
Plot: While the game's main voice cast members will reprise their roles, the TV anime will tell an original story that is different from the game. Its story is set in the continent called Orbis, a land of swords and magic. 100 years have passed since King Kyle defeated the Demon Lord Angmund, and the protagonist Kasel, who is an apprentice knight, has lived in a peaceful time. However, his fate begins to change when he learns that a monster has appeared in his neighborhood. Guided by a wise man and having a reliable companion, he embarks on an adventure to seek the sealed holy sword.
FUNimation keeps freezing on my computer. I wasn't able to get key scenes for my comments.
We reveal Kasel's background a bit. He lost his mother to demons.
The sage reveals he's the son of King Kyle who defeated the Demon Lord 100 years ago by allying with other races. His mother looks human. When the sage shares the flashback scene, the young king was talking amicably with a dark elf. That raises some flags.
Continuing the revelation we get a massive backstory exposition on the life of King Kyle and then his wife Arlette and elder half sister, Illya.
I find it suspicious that Illya died to demonic forces after trying to make something with science in order to help her brother defeat the demon lord. After her death, they put her trial and persecute her people in Ordevia. That's where the racism starts.I feel there is more than meets the eye here.
Arlette was put to sleep for 100 years after the disappearance of King Kyle and Demon Lord because they feel the Demon Lord is still alive.
This is a pretty good fantasy show for this season.
On the journey to the forest of elves, they encounter a group of skeletons. We do see the dagger wielding orange haired man, Roi, in action. The skeletons are mowed down by Lorraine’s archer elf retainer who turns out to be a princess Selene.
The group loses track of her and find themselves outside the forest of Eldoria. Turns out the treants were involved. A baby treant finds then and leads them, Necha. Selene is very protective of Necha. Later that night, Kasel spars with Necha. By the campfire, Kasel says he is no one since he couldn’t protect anyone. The gang talk about the holy sword that appeared once just like the demon lord Angmund.
Suddenly the forest is quaking with a giant treant going berserk. Turns out a demonic flower attacking the forest. The demon flower hold Necha hostage. It has a pitcher plant on top. Necha throws the sword at the back of the flower demon causing it drop Kasel. Consequently the flower demon shoots thorns into Necha, killing it. Kasel goes berserk, killing the flower demon.
The episode took most of Selena's screentime as she try to gauge whether Kasel is worthy of the sword, noting he lost control of his temper and went berserk upon Necha/Chibi's death. When Necha's grave sprouts a leafling, Selena ges over her racist feeling towards humans and approves Kasel.
Lorraine, Selena's master, informs Kasel there are other locks as they did the first unlock. He has to visit the other lands where races that Kasel's father, Kyle, had befriended it.
It sounds like a video game.
We get some screentime of the dark elves of Dark Edge.
Then the witch lady comes to play with Kasel.
I can't believe the mage blurted out that Kasel is Kyle's son. The witch asked if Kasel will become Lua's puppet after learning that fact.
This episode was a break in that we spent time in a village, getting money for things because of our fire mage who is sheltered and spent all the money. This was the episode that focuses on the fire mage, her backstory, and then learning to use her magic efficiently to help her friends upon meeting an elderly woman who was scared of fire due to a tragic loss of her family.
This episode is solely focused on dark elves. Because of the success of the Dark Edge, they have been invited to discussions with the knights. This causes Zierro to be jealous and fearful of them. Just when Tamm notices not alll humans are bad as the villagers greet him with free bread, Zierro's men attack Tamm. Riheet finds out the Zierro is behind it due to the insignia on the bottom of the hilt.
We helped a small village with repairs while our priestess tend to the children especially the young girl Elise who got attached to our priestess. She locked her up in the storage which leads them in a fight against demon worms.
Oh yeah, a new character from last episode has some screen time.
Ep 9 We meet Elise's father who is living alone in a village of undead. We find out why he can't leave as he is unable to move on and accept his wife, Lisa, is dead. Elise's father has kept his wife, an undead, chained in the basement. With the help of Kase and the gang, he is able to accept it and put his wife to rest.
We get a happy ending of him reuniting with Elise at the shelter.
Simple episode - helps develop Kase and the priestess. We get some screentime from our scar face guy but not much yet until future episodes. The lore got more monsters, undead. THese undead can run, see, hear, and move during the day/night.
Tamm has a bittersweet farewell to Sheila as both were smitten. Due to the racism and Riheet's goals to subjugate Orvelia out of revenge, Tamm reveals his backstory of the massacre and why he hates his birthday (it began on his birthday).
Princess get some screen time. She informs her father that the dark elves were recruited by that man.
Beginning of the episode - we explore the backstory of Malduk, the sorcerer, and how he used necromancy to help the princess revive her dead father because the kingdom needs an heir. The princess hasn't wed I assume. The princess is Jane while her lover is Theo.
This is how Malduk fell into evil because of the exile. I'm not sure if Malduk was good and then turned bad or he was bad the whole time.
We go back to the present where Kasel and his party arrive to the orc lands. The orcs have an undead problem because a sorcerer human took their kind and turn them into undead.
Kasel has to prove himself as the true heir to the holy word otherwise, his party members and him will be killed.
Kasel passes the test after rejecting the illusion of his mother who tempted him into happiness.
The second half deals with Malduk who arrives when he senses the holy sword. Kasel goes berserk with anger upon seeing Malduk blasts the orc chief. And even more anger when Malduk's attacks land on Freya (because everyone can dodge it except her).
I find it odd that Malduk lost his temper when Kasel slices off his hair. Kasel was able to force Malduk to retreat. We see him making an explosion, demonstrating his increase in power upon passing the orcs' test.
Ep 13 is recap, and Ep 13 and 14 were aired together as a one hour broadcast.
Tamm is killed off after his line. On cue, Maluk appears. The episode preview showcases the massacre.
Prior, we get Princess Scarlet demonstrating a sparring match to show the Black Edge to place their trust in the humans. Meanwhile, the Black Edge's boss will take over the kingdom in Scarlet's absence. The princess goes on a expedition, the Galluger Plains. Their forces split when she sends the Black Edge to investigate the old castle.
We get new theme songs. The ending theme song which is dedicated to dark elves now show Riheet walking towards the princess.
Malduk has unleashed a massacre upon the Dark Elves. Like Kasel, Riheet goes berserk upon seeing Ripine knocked unconscious. The witch has a look on her face when she sees the red necklace on Riheet.
Kasel wakes up from his month long or so slumber. He learns he can’t control his powers and emotions. Meanwhile the orc shaman shared the full prophetic dream with the priestess about Kasel disappearance.
We take a turn to a side quest. Well if it was a JRPG. Rio didn't want them to help the village as they need to get to their main quest, Pavel and the Holy Sword.
Our monster was a spider which gave me Dragon Quest XI vibes. The spider kidnap Dark Elves, humans, and anyone indiscriminately into its cave. We meet a new character named Reina, a mercenary from the Empire.
Kasel got character development as he didn't let fear of losing control of his power when killing the spider.
Did Ripine died? I didn't pay attention. While Riheet angrily yells at Princess Scarlett who doesn't know about the Dark Elf massacre by Orvellia, he meets the witch lady who states she's Illya's friend and confirms Riheet is Illya's descendants (the red necklace) and tells him to go to Illya's lab. Riheet doesn't believe her.
Earlier in the episode, Princess Scarlett gets cheered by the little girls in Elise's village.
Ep 20 Well, this episode was a big exposition/flashback but then it had a big surprising plot twist at the end.
Pavel explains how his father and Lorraine were persistent in recruiting him. We find out why Arlette chose to sleep for 100 years to gave birth to Kasel. The demon king was going to wake up in 100 years. King Kyle disappeared.
Then, the moon or whatever event came in. The sorcerer and witch were shocked to see King Kyle emerged from the sky abyss.
Next episode preview promises the true story of Illya.
Old Man Dream: ...later titles in the Macross franchise can finally come stateside with all involved parties finally coming to a truce over how to handle things with the Macross trademark and all later anime in the franchise associated with it.

Taka: I see. A global release will benefit it. Gundam did pretty good. The only few franchises that are only popular in Japan but not popular in the west - Yokai Watch comes to mind.

Master Menos: F for Respects. DMX did all his work while suffering from a drug addiction, and I almost never knew until a point. I hope his next life treats him far better.
