Note: This is part of the XIV Days of Darkness reviewing mini-series. This review is for Day X and contains severe spoilers. Your discretion has been advised. ...Or not.
Mars of Destruction is a 1-episode science fiction/horror OVA about some poor saps trying to defeat an enemy force that was mutated by fragments of debris from Planet Mars. One of the saps has to don a super suit ironically called the "MARS" to defeat the menace and save Earth.
Storyline Eight words: Absolutely boring even with a cop out ending. The story is a complete mess from the very start onwards and served absolutely no purpose other than being about two fights against the menace and some backstory about the protagonist that felt like a short monologue. In fact, everything felt like a monologue aside of the battles. The last martian telling Takeru that the humans invaded Earth and eradicated the martians from said planet made things even more nonsensical than ever before.
Characters Not a single character is worth even remembering here, if possible. Takeru is a blatant rip-off of Shinji Akari from "Evangelion" with the tiny drop of development he got and looks like one of the dudes from the game "Handsome Gakuen" because of his facial features. The others look and sound like they were living barbie dolls here and are completely void of any personality or sense (which should be revealed by the first moment of seeing one of their own being killed).
Pros and Cons The only pros here is that this OVA is 20-25 minutes long and the "MARS" is the most decent-looking thing in the whole show.
Now let's begin to tear into this even further. The animation and art style is seriously horrible and extremely generic. The characters have little movement and there are places where the wrong character's body parts are present during movement. One huge example of this is when Takeru was wearing armor when being covered in the hospital bed in that frame when he is really in bandages. They also had his hair wrong, which was the cherry on top for his first appearance without the suit. Let's not forget the beginning either when that ship was burning without being in motion. The musical score ruined some of Beethoven's finest music even though it feels like a placeholder of an unfinished middle school project. Lastly, everything looks like it was filmed on a cheap 1990's video camera while the holder was shivering for multiple moments.
Final Verdict This is very easily an 1/10 and was one of the worst things that I have ever viewed in years. The phrase "There's nothing to see here. Move along, people" is an understatement when it comes to this excuse of an OVA.
Current Situation: I wanted another excuse to use Enterprise as an avatar again.
Taka: I see. A global release will benefit it. Gundam did pretty good. The only few franchises that are only popular in Japan but not popular in the west - Yokai Watch comes to mind.

Master Menos: F for Respects. DMX did all his work while suffering from a drug addiction, and I almost never knew until a point. I hope his next life treats him far better.
