The last of 3 reviews I did for animevice. Since it was very poor timing with the submission and was not spotlighted, this will be the first review I post here.
Well, here is review #3 friends (#1 for me here). Since I've reached the magic number, I'll probably stop numbering them from now on.
Hellstar Remina is a one volume short horror series surrounding a young girl and a horrendous monstrosity. The girl who's name is Remina is the daughter of a wealthy and highly renowned scientist who discovered an anomaly in space that was gradually making it's way towards their Solar system. After naming the discovery after his daughter, the girl was all of a sudden turned into a celebrity of sorts, becoming popular merely by association. But nothing could have prepared her or indeed, the world for what was to come.
Not long after the discovery, the anomaly began to behave in unnatural ways that could not be directly observed but monitored. The anomaly had traversed more distance than it should have and celestial bodies that it passed by, seemed to vanish from monitors without a trace. What was most disturbing of all was that this unidentified calamity was on a course for Earth. The young Remina who is the lead role, faces terrible trials throughout the short story when seemingly not only the whole world but another "world" are against her.
This is a dark piece, without any sort of comic relief or lighter themes to be found. The art is fair and easy to see what is going on at all times. The only complaint I may have is that given the short length, there is little time to become connected with the reoccurring characters and by extent, there is also little in the way of character development. However, Hellstar Remina does what it is supposed to do and does it well, which is horror.
Nice review, Taich. I read this one today and finished it in about a couple of hours. Loved it. I think I'll be checking out more of Ito's work.
But tell me one thing.....What does the last, last chapter have to do with anything?
I truly think it was just the author displaying his horror fetish. Really it had nothing to do with Remina. It was a bonus 1-shot I believe. But I am thoroughly pleased that this review has had a positive impact on even 1 user. Btw. I began watching Mobil Suit Gundam recently. I need help. I can't stop watching it.
Taka: I see. A global release will benefit it. Gundam did pretty good. The only few franchises that are only popular in Japan but not popular in the west - Yokai Watch comes to mind.

Master Menos: F for Respects. DMX did all his work while suffering from a drug addiction, and I almost never knew until a point. I hope his next life treats him far better.
