Hello everyone, the summer season has been strange. It brought back 2 anime adaptations of 2 old manga series that have been in deep hiatus: Berserk and D. Gray-man. These aren't reboots. They were continuing off where the anime left off. For Berserk, it's a bit complicated.
Here's the short review of D. Gray-man Hallow. Considering this is the sequel anime, I can review this without fear of spoilers.
D.Gray-man Hallow takes after the Black Order Massacre and skips the zombie arc which felt like filler. It adapts the Timothy Arc and Alma Karma arc. While the Timothy Arc just introduces a new character who doesn't play a big role in the later arcs, the Alma Karma arc is the biggest arc because it ties in two big things: Kanda's backstory with the Third Exorcists and Allen Walker's Noah Awakening.
Because of these 2 major plots coming together, the story feels sort convoluted as the events were orchestrated by the Millennium Earl to manipulate Alma Karma and his grudge against Kanda and the Black Order in an effort to get Allen's Noah side to awaken. Also, the pacing is rushed. While there were animation issues, there were some strange censorship issues. The beginning of the anime isn't censored, but during the actual fight between Kanda, Alma, and Allen, things were censored. Strangely, some were unnecessary censored while some you would think would have got censored. One particular scene was when Alma was blasting Kanda's face. Kanda's face melts, and it wasn't censored. Lastly for flaws was the comedic and chibi moments that occurs during the wrong times, during serious scenes. It comes off weird when they try to break the tension and lighten the mood.
What are good points? Well, this is what I struggled with. I enjoyed the anime more or less. It wasn't boring or a complete disaster. I didn't write a list of what the anime didn't adapt faithfully. I'm a person who doesn't look at the stuff when reviewing anime adaptations since anime series should have their control and interpretation. I got used to the new voice actors and actresses. I don't even remember the original Japanese cast. It has been so long. The show's strength was showing the struggle of Allen Walker and the morals with the Black Order and how that affected everyone.
I give this show a 7 out of 10. It wasn't bad. Thanks for reading. I hope you D.Gray-man fans enjoy it.
Old Man Dream: ...later titles in the Macross franchise can finally come stateside with all involved parties finally coming to a truce over how to handle things with the Macross trademark and all later anime in the franchise associated with it.

Taka: I see. A global release will benefit it. Gundam did pretty good. The only few franchises that are only popular in Japan but not popular in the west - Yokai Watch comes to mind.

Master Menos: F for Respects. DMX did all his work while suffering from a drug addiction, and I almost never knew until a point. I hope his next life treats him far better.
