Puella Magi Madoka Magica is a 12 episode magical girl and seinen series about a certain pink haired girl that meets a creature that is able to grant wishes and then turn the recipients into magical girls on the recipients' own terms. However, being a magical girl is not all that it seems in the shadows...
Storyline I loved how misleading the tale ended up being overall. It comes off as normal magical girl fare, but after just three episodes, it turns into a harrowing spiral of doom for all of the girls involved and did it in a very good way. Most of it all being character driven helped out as well and considering my last sentence, it definitely wasn't so predictable at all on the first watch thanks to the dark subject matter that came with becoming a magical girl and especially the consequences that came with it all in a dead serious tone. Even though this is just a twelve episode series, there is a lot of content contained within them and the pacing doesn't affect any of it negatively at all. Instead of having an open end result, it actually manages to wrap everything up in a shocking and nice way and at the same time, it keeps the users thinking on what happened and how it got to the position presented in the ending.
Characters Everyone felt very human and got a lot of good development, especially from how they were before and after their wishes were granted. I had little to no problem with anyone from the show at all, not even with Madoka as an average-seeming person at first, but as the show went on, she became one of my most favorites for this show, alongside someone that had a mysterious air that was cleared up in a shocking way, and that was Homura. The non-humans also turn out fantastic in their own way, with the infamous Kyuubey being in good graces with me despite their lack of human reasoning that they harbor (because that helped the story and magical girl mechanic out instead of the other way around). For the witches, they turned out to be some enjoyable and harrowing monsters. My fave out of those that is still a love-hate thing turns out to be Charlotte, the sweets witch with her design being a strong reason to why I ended up liking her.
Pros and Cons The art style looks damn good, even for magical girl standards. When it calls for, there are shades of bright and vibrant or dark and dulling colors and atmospheres depending on the situation that the characters are in. It is also easy on the eye size and instead has these nice-looking stylized pupils for the humans that fill the reasonable space. It changes a lot for the witch labyrinths and they don't hamper the experience much at all. The animation is excellent and not too fluid for both normal and witch styles involved. The musical score is awesome, especially once the not-so-dark guises are torn apart from episode three onwards with my favorite of the themes being "Magia". How this show turned dark in the first place and became a deconstruction to the magical girl genre in three episodes was actually why I loved the transition so much. The re-watch value contained with this show is very high, considering on how the story is structured.
But for those that don't like such darkness (this contains a lot of death and some mind breaking/suicide events), you may have to tread carefully with this show, especially if they're not much into magical girl shows at all. You may also have to tread carefully with introducing new anime viewers to this show unless they like such fare for both the lighter and darker parts within it.
Dub and Sub Comparisons/Evaluation Both voice tracks sound very nice, but the Japanese voices end up sounding more fitting to the characters than some of the English voices, despite both dubs being very solid. The translation between the subbed and dubbed versions are nicely well done and end up being rather close on the most part with very few problems.
Final Verdict This ends up being a 10/10 and also easily one of my favorite anime of all time here. For those that are willing to face the darkness that is Puella Magi Madoka Magica, I would say that it's worth a try, especially if you binge watch the first three episodes (which is actually recommended).
Current Situation: I wanted another excuse to use Enterprise as an avatar again.
The dub voice in the third movie was a huge improvement as I honestly did not like the dub voice for the anime in my first viewing and quickly change to sub, but it seem they improve immensely in the third movie which also happen to be my favorite anime movie.
Madoka is easily my favorite anime of all time, me being lucky to watch it with no expectations if it'd be dark or not. Though personally, I am not fully a fan of the 3rd movie only for a certain part that...came out of nowhere. I'm sure anyone who's seen it knows what I mean. But other than that part, I liked it. Kinda wish they'd translate the Vita game for us Westerners.
Madoka was my 2nd Magical girl show, I believe. I only watched it when I heard about it after it won first place. I didn't watch the dub. Did enjoy the show and feel bad of how the girls went through even though some of them were naive and didn't ask Kyubei who was straight forward. Music was very cool and memorable.
Old Man Dream: ...later titles in the Macross franchise can finally come stateside with all involved parties finally coming to a truce over how to handle things with the Macross trademark and all later anime in the franchise associated with it.

Taka: I see. A global release will benefit it. Gundam did pretty good. The only few franchises that are only popular in Japan but not popular in the west - Yokai Watch comes to mind.

Master Menos: F for Respects. DMX did all his work while suffering from a drug addiction, and I almost never knew until a point. I hope his next life treats him far better.
