Welcome to the Dagashi Kashi review. The show revolves around Shikada Kokonotsu (AKA "Coconuts") who aspires to be a mangaka instead of inheriting and running his father's candy shop. Then, he encounters Hotaru Shidare, a strange girl who loves candy, who wants Coconuts' father for her company. In exchange, Coconuts' father wants Hotaru to convince his son to run the shop.
Pros and Cons
The anime itself doesn't do much in terms of its intended plot. Instead, we get this slice of life, comedic gag show that milks expressions, interactions, how Hotaru eats her candy for erotic appeal, fan service mostly of Hotaru, and the teasing of the romantic arrow or diagram of Hotaru, Coconuts, and Saya.
The show's biggest strength is its comedy with no substance and fan service mainly of Hotaru who is the poster waifu. With comedy being binary as you love it or not, it will affect your mileage. Some episodes are good while some are just boring or doesn't have enough haha moments. The first episode was probably the strongest in terms of comedy as it pokes fun at the mangakas and their waifus. Everything else is just comedy focusing on Hotaru and Saya with Coconuts caught in the middle. The protagonist isn't the focus of the show. It panders towards viewers who either watch the show for Saya or Hotaru. The food gimmick comedy of the show starts to wean off as the 2nd half milks the romantic and unrequited love aspect.
Overall, Dagashi is a fun show, but the comedy can be a bit lacking in substance and doesn't take much to build its characters and achieve what the plot says. Instead, it just goes off wanton in comedy with focus on the two main female characters in terms of appealing to moe fans. It can be regard as a guilty pleasure show. For me personally, it wasn't a memorable show as I thought back for best anime and manga of 2016.
Taka: I see. A global release will benefit it. Gundam did pretty good. The only few franchises that are only popular in Japan but not popular in the west - Yokai Watch comes to mind.

Master Menos: F for Respects. DMX did all his work while suffering from a drug addiction, and I almost never knew until a point. I hope his next life treats him far better.
