Notes: for this review, I will only review the anime and won't mention the manga at all especially with how controversial the fans get with the mangaka Kouji Seo's decision to make the anime different from the original source material.
Fuuka is the sequel to Suzuka and you don't need to read Suzuka first. I didn't read nor watch Suzuka. Fuuka revolves around Yuu Haruna's meeting with Fuuka Akitsuki which later spurs the two to start a band of their own out of their love for music such as songs written by Yuu's childhood, idol friend, Koyuki Hinashi, and the band, Hedgehogs.
Because of the promo art and how much the two girls take significance in the beginning, the love triangle in this show wasn't utilized as well and it was painfully obviously which pair was form, Yuu and Fuuka. However, the way Yuu and Fuuka became a pair never really feel natural and felt rushed as well as their "pay-off" in the end felt cliche and anti-climatic. Yuu just stalked the poor girl's house every day to get her to come back to the band. Fuuka quit the band initially to be a solo singer to jump start her career which was selfish. The two lovers didn't really grow as characters. The way Koyuki broke up with Yuu was executed in a bizarre fashion. Yuu never said anything or said no to her while Koyuki assume Yuu and Fuuka were in a relationship already. To be honest, I was rooting for Koyuki but I knew she won't make it due to the tragic childhood friend trope in love triangles and that she was singing unrequited songs which is a bigger flag.
Now for the supporting characters who had little backstory and character development. You get to see some of it like Makoto's issues with his father who didn't like Makoto going to music and wants his son to run their rich company. You don't get to see their motives for joining the band which Fuuka forces them to join. What's their dream and motivations?
I always list fan service neutrally and lists what type of fan service is included because everyone has different tolerance levels with fan service. The fan service in this show occurs a regular basis, every episode.

Moving on to the good stuff since we want to finish the review on a good note. What I enjoyed was the vocals for the songs that Fuuka sing. I have no idea who the singer is. It's likely to be Ayaka Shimizu since Lynn is credited as "CV" on the anime's official website. I don't watch a lot of anime shows dealing with music. The last time I found some great vocals by a band was Angel's Beat. I have to mention a bad thing I found was when Koyuki and Fuuka singing together. You can hardly hear Koyuki as Fuuka's voice overwhelms her.
The visuals are pretty and some of the animation has nice sakuga to them.
Overall, the anime is decent, but I wish they could have done more. You have the potential to do more when your anime adaptation isn't tied down to the original source material. Personally, I don't revere the original source material to superior to an adaptation which you seen mostly in anime fandom compared to comic book fandom. An anime adaptation has to stand on its own. With the flaws that Fuuka has, they have an underdeveloped couple and supporting characters but great music and visuals.
Old Man Dream: ...later titles in the Macross franchise can finally come stateside with all involved parties finally coming to a truce over how to handle things with the Macross trademark and all later anime in the franchise associated with it.

Taka: I see. A global release will benefit it. Gundam did pretty good. The only few franchises that are only popular in Japan but not popular in the west - Yokai Watch comes to mind.

Master Menos: F for Respects. DMX did all his work while suffering from a drug addiction, and I almost never knew until a point. I hope his next life treats him far better.
