Seven Mortal sin was produced by the now closed down Art Land, with the last episode being made by TNK. As you imagined, this anime was made by a sinking ship and as a result is a mess. The anime had two recap episode for a 12 episode show, which just further paints a picture of the type of mess you are getting. The anime is based on erotic figure lines which has been done before. A popular ecchi battle centric anime based on figure has been done before like Queen Blade, which I honestly did enjoy. Art Land have produced great anime like Mushi-shi and one of my favorite, Hitman Reborn. They have done heavy battle fan service before like Senran Kagura which was a mixed bag. Senran Kagura, however, was competent compare to this heaping mess. let us rip the band aid and get to the review.
Plot: Lucifer has fallen from heaven and now enter Hell. As a fallen angel Lucifer now wishes to be the ruler of the Seven Sins to get revenge on Heaven. This simple premise honestly is passable and can have lots of potential for a fun ecchi heavy anime. Unfortunately, the plots feel way more complicated than it has to. Lucifer apparently gave angel blood to the first person she meets, and now can use it to find other sins. None of this was explained clearly. Most of the episode is just Lucifer challenging different sin, either by eating contest, dance off, bondage, or in rare occasions actually fighting. That being said they are simply not that well executed. The show tries to take it self seriously, but just end up being cringe worthy. The characters are not fleshed out, making any scene that is trying to take it seriously or have some weight feel empty. While it does try to have some fun, is simply is not that well animated or creative with the exception of episode 5 with Astaroth. Most of the episode goals are to entertain with just fan service and empty characters. Sometimes the fan service bits can be entertaining, but they are simply not that creative or clever and just get tiring fast. The worst episode I remembered just had Lucifer on those torturing bondage horse thing, with barely any "fighting" and Maria giving a stupid speech. Which was a repeat of episode 3 except it took itself more seriously which came out stupid.
Overall the story was weak. If it took itself seriously, it just came out cringe worthy. If it was trying to be fun, it was not clever or creative enough to pull it off. The show never have any stake because the characters are not fleshed out enough. The best I can say is episode 5 was fun.
Characters: What characters? Well, I guess I start with the three central characters.
Lucifer, the main character, is a fallen angel who wants to rule over the seven deadly sin and get revenge on Heaven. She is basically your badass overconfident sexy character. Honestly, she is a fun character, even when coming off as evil, but she has her reason. That being said the show just does not utilize her well with her being put in a stupid situation. While it can be fun to see her put in a weird situation (like in episode 5), it is often quite stale. Seeing her be tortured for fan service for the better part of the episode is not my idea of entertainment.
Levy is basically the jealous comedic lesbian relief of the show. While she can be fun, she can also be annoying and just use for pointless fan service that goes nowhere.
Maria, oh god is she a terribly written character. Maria is meant to be the relatable character of the show. Often in a show, there is a normal human character who is thrown into a supernatural event and the audience goes on a journey with them. Do not expect that with this character. Maria's heart gets stolen by Lucifer and now she must obey her while also getting abused by Levy. There is no reason she is friends with Lucifer as the episode progress with all the things that happened to her. They never let the audience really get a feel for Maria character except she clearly has Stockholm syndrome, because how is she friends with them, like HOW? This is what really ruined the show because there nothing to latch on to. Whenever they focus on her I just lose interest because the character is not interesting at all. This just makes the final episode worst when they finally revealed more about the character background and there scene hinges on the audience caring about the character, but by then is too late I do not care. Her motivation, personality, likes and dislike, is just for the most part not there until the last episode. While I guess I have seen worst characters, she is definitely a badly written one.
The rest of the sins are okay, in that they can be fun, but never really taken seriously since there no weight to them. The sins just have like one trait to them for the most part and only work well for comedic purposes. The only sin characters I really like was Astaroth, as her character was fun and unique. Her conflict was not something that seems to come out of someone ass, and honestly, I rather watch a show about a demon trying to make it as a singer.
The main problem is that the characters only work when is trying to have fun, but there never any reason to care about them. The shows never try to get the audience to understand the characters except with a few rare occasion, which is wasted because the audience no longer care.
Animation: What animation? Oh, wait I used that joke already. The only good animated episode was episode 5 with their music video, with an awesome kickass music video of Astaroth that can be seen in full in the end credit of 4.5. Otherwise, the animation is very inconsistent. Granted again is no surprise since the animation studio was closing, but it does not excuse the fact that the first episode fight was garbaged. It mostly consists of close up shots. I mean not just them having panty shot once in a while, I mean having a close up of them while they are fighting which is so damn annoying. I mean these are demon lord battling a fallen angel, it should look cool and not just me looking at a dress. Like god damn was that one of the worst fights I have seen this year. None of the other fights in this anime are impressive, and there plenty of better action in other ecchi shows. For the most part, the action scene only lasts for a minute after the first episode. That being said episode 8 did felt epic, but overall the animation felt unpolished and the choreography could have been better. The animation is just mediocre all around. Most of the animation just felt like they needed more time, which again is most likely the scenario. I mean the fact that they had two recaps is enough to paint a picture of why the animation was not the best it could have been. The only good thing I have to say is the design of the character, but they are based on figures line, so that is not saying much.
By the way, the fan service is great, as it does have lots of different fetishes and situation for the characters. That being said they are better shows who does that while also being more entertaining. Lots of bondage, yuri bait, clothes getting rip, pole stripping, bikinis the usual. Is at least more heavier with the fan service then most anime this year, which is the only real appeal.
Music: Great, I will admit the soundtrack for this was great. Probably why episode 5 was good because it was a music centered episode. The music always tries to make the scene better than they really are, and are a good reason to stay for the credit aside from seeing sexy demons topless. Sorry music, but your talent is wasted on this anime.
Overall: It was made by a studio closing down. Do I need to say more? Fan service action shows usually work best when they are fun, and flesh the character enough that the action scene has weight to them. This anime barely had characters, and barely had good animation, and overall barely had any direction. This is what people think fan service show is, just an excuse to show boobs, and this anime gets an F Or in myanimelist a 3. There better ecchi shows out there, and for people who don't like ecchi, this will not change their mind. I said the only thing worth watching is Astaroth music video Asudeko.
I half ass this review, so don't expect more. I wish I wrote this review after watching episode 12 since I was really mad and probably would have put more passion into it.
Jgames: Very nice on your end and congrats of your first full review on here! As for me, I'm in the middle of writing for this show since I can finally tear it apart in full as well. I won't hold back one bit either.
Current Situation: I wanted another excuse to use Enterprise as an avatar again.
Old Man Dream: ...later titles in the Macross franchise can finally come stateside with all involved parties finally coming to a truce over how to handle things with the Macross trademark and all later anime in the franchise associated with it.

Taka: I see. A global release will benefit it. Gundam did pretty good. The only few franchises that are only popular in Japan but not popular in the west - Yokai Watch comes to mind.

Master Menos: F for Respects. DMX did all his work while suffering from a drug addiction, and I almost never knew until a point. I hope his next life treats him far better.
