The model detail has improved by leaps and bounds. The CGI goop has a much better look to it and the Grimm models are shaded better. The ground and world textures have better shading and more details as well.
The fight scenes haven't changed that much but the character animations are better.
The series got a major upgrade to animation and scenery. In season 1, backgrounds were simple and generic since they were just starting out. Now, the background have shadow, texture, and more vibrant colors. The character models have a slight upgrade; though, it will take some time to get used.
All characters have a change in attire. Jaune is wearing Pyrrha's scarf around his waist and used Pyrrha's weapon as a blacksmith combined and upgraded his weapon. I find that touching.
For the villains, they didn't really stand out aside from the Salem who reminds me of Star Wars character.
Good episode. I see they didn't fix their audio issue with balancing background music with SFX sound and character voices.
While i think they meant for the scene to be touching Jon training and being depressed to a recording of Pyrrha's voice is honestly depressing and a little creepy. I'm also having a hard time taking Jon seriously especially this episode when he said "i always lose everything" - of course Pyrrha is going to die when you dont stand guard like the Prof told you to! though its all because of plot.
I think Jon is going to become uber badass soon, likely because of Pyrrha's spirit or something along those jedi-like lines.
Wiess's character development is actually nice and from the opening song its clear that we will see some interesting development in her summoning powers.
A bit somber episode for Jaune, but it felt really uncomfortable to see him train with Pyrrha's video played on loop.
Plus side, got to see more of Weiss's family. The show suffers from lack of backstory and world building which they used extras in season 1 and 2. The whole Dust and war thing just flew over my head. I honestly don't like the story of RWBY since it's bland. I'm watching it for the characters and fight animation which Monty is known for.
I have mixed feelings for this season. There are several different things that have been improved but there are also parts that have taken a hit. It's nice that the RT team is expanding the environments and backgrounds however they are incredibly lacking right now and really really empty (boat episode with that gross water). The writing doesn't seem as good and the story is a little muddled. However it is interesting to see character progression of the rest of the RWBY team. We are learning a out Wiess's family which is nice because her character was hard to love. Blake is going on a journey to find her way and it looks like we will learn more about her past. Yang has had a complete character change. She is no longer the fiery (pun intended) girl we once knew. Ruby is traveling along the same progression path as before with a new team. They really upped the detail for character models (new cute outfits)
I forgot to comment on Ep.3. The trouble is that the episode wasn't that memorable. It didn't do much. It focused on Blake and why she distanced herself along with a monkey guy whose name I forgot as well as showing Yang getting a prosthetic arm. The 4 main girls all split apart after that event, so the story is slowed down as the girls try to move forward and get their own "healing" in some manner.
However, the slow down might kill the story a bit as story isn't as strong. The characters are great except for the villains. The side characters well only Jaune had some growth and Pyrrha, but she's dead now.
Latest episode introduces Blake's parents, they look a lot more older than Ruby and Yang's uncle and aunty or whatever they are, Crow/Qrow and Raven.
The show tries to touch social commentary with Blake mentioning second class citizens but they didn't do much. That bites Blake a bit when she implies that all White Fang members were bad after blsming all of them for the deaths in Beacon. However, those guys are suspicious with their conversations so a bit bad writing there.
There were weird Son Goku ship tease with the parents expressing opposite views of him with Blake, the mom likes him but the dad doesn't like him.
Didn't have anime today, and I forgot about RWBY. Checked it out. While Weiss's scene had character development, it was a bit cliche.
The 2nd half which had the battle which is RWBY's strongest point, fight choreography, was decent. I was wondering why Crow and Ruby had a hard time fighting together despite being close family members.
Taka: It's a gigantic mech franchise. I haven't seen Macross myself. I know it's a big one.
