Vespa Private Beachfront Estate, Southern California-4 hours till NAIE Opening
*Beep*Beep*Beep. The holographic alarm clock on Aeron’s bedside was going off signaling her to wake up. Aeron turned over to her side slowly opening her eyes as her clock came into her focus. Still beeping and displaying 8:00 am in a cobalt blue color, “Stop” Aeron said to the clock which complied immediately. “Good morning Ms. Vespa an automated female voice echoed throughout Aeron’s bedroom while her massive ivory silk curtain opened up on their own to bring in warm sunlight and a magnificent view of the ocean. Aeron sat up from her bed and began to stretch her stiff muscles, giving a yawn in the process. “….Good morning Freya”, Aeron answered rubbing her eyes. “ She eventually rolled out of her massive bed only wearing her royal purple negligee, and towards her bedroom window. Letting the warm rays of the sun hit her skin, “Freya, traffic and weather report please.” Nearly instantaneously Freya responded to Aeron’s request giving her a brief rundown; “The current temperature is 67 degrees, and partly cloudy with a less than 5% chance of rain. Estimated sunset tonight is around 8:05 pm.
There is as usual heavy traffic on the Los Angeles freeways so if you expect to make the expo on time by car for the ribbon cutting ceremony I suggest you leave in the next 30 minutes.” Aeron merely grinned to herself as she responded to Freya” Now now you know I don’t do traffic, and besides look at this bed hair I have. “Of course Ms. Vespa that’s why I have already started prepping the private jet. Aeron began to swell with pride like a mother showing off her child’s straight “A” report card to her friends and family. “Excellent work Freya, and have Chef Boris cook me up a Champion’s breakfast. I’ll be in the tub.” Right away Ms. Vespa” Freya gladly answered.
Nearly an hour had passed; Aeron’s estate was filled with the intoxicating aroma of trademark breakfast foods eggs, bacon, pancakes just to name a few. Aeron entered her larger than life kitchen wearing a crimson red designer blouse with jet black business pants adorn with matching red pinstripes along with expensive designer heels to match. She had the scent of strawberries on her; the pudgy Chef Boris quickly prepared Aeron’s plate of breakfast as she sat down at the bar while also complimenting her. “Madame Aeron you look simply marvelous!” Boris gave Aeron a big smile, but something was wrong. Boris was stuck with the smile on his face while glitching in certain areas of his body. “….Freya shutdown the Chef Boris program that smile is starting to creep me out” Aeron sighed. Freya complied with Aeron’s request and the Chef Boris construct. Taking a bite out of her meal she spoke to Freya once more “Guess I’ll work on his programing when I return from the Expo, but he still makes a damn good breakfast” Aeron turned on the T.V. and saw a news report covering the NAIE.
“This Sonata Hinamura of Diamond 7 news reporting live from the New Age Innovations Expo; where thousands of people have been camping out for the last few days to be a part of history. Let’s see if we can get a couple quick interviews.” Sonata found a young married couple to start off
Sonata: “Hey guys where you from?”
Man: “We came all the way from Miami,Florida baby!! WOOOOO!
Woman: “You have to forgive my husband he has been waiting for a whole year to look at all the new gizmos and things. He is also excited to meet Aeron Vespa, but he better not forget*she pinches her husband’s arm* he’s a married man.”
Man: …”Yes dear”…*pouts*
Sonata: (laughs) “Well have fun you two”
Sonata then lets the couple and walks over to a small group of young men waiting for their chance to enter the Expo. Once she met face to face with them she started the interview.
Sonata: So guys where you from?
Man1: “Were from right here in San Jose been waiting forever to get inside the place!”
Man2: He’s right it been a long time coming especially with a chance to meet Aeron up close.
Man3: She’s amazing I got a tattoo of her on my arm!! *lifts up his sleeve and reveals his tattoo to the world”
Other two men cheer behind them and playfully pat him on the back
Sonata: “Well I’m going to let you guys go enjoy all the festivities.”
Sonata then turned back towards the camera. “As you all can tell Aeron Vespa is a pretty popular figure around here and rightfully so. Vespa Visionaries was the flagship company to help make this Expo a possibly. Aeron is scheduled to be the guest of honor today with a ribbon cutting ceremony, and along with a presentation of the new product Vespa Visionaries and My Gaming Oasis of Tokyo have been working on. Not only that, but the Expo will feature thousands of other companies as well ran by humans and M-Gene users alike. A time for everyone to come together to build a better tomorrow; so if you like tech, food, rides and fireworks San Jose is the place to be. I’m Sonata Hinamura from Diamond 7 news signing off.”
The news report ended, and during the broadcast Aeron finished her breakfast along with two cups of coffee, “Your mother and father would be so proud of you Aeron” Freya said to Aeron. Aeron got up from the bar, she didn’t acknowledge that Freya’s words were true or not she just quickly changed the subject instead. “Freya, is the private jet ready?” “Yes Ms. Vespa ready when you are” Aeron grabbed her personal belongings and headed out the door. Freya initiated a security lockdown to the entire estate. Outside a quicksilver colored Aston Martin D89 rolled up to Aeron; there was no one in the driver seat. Aeron got in on the driver side and quickly sped off the estate grounds heading towards her personal airfield and jet to San Jose.
Charlotte awoke to an unpleasant surprise from her parents. They had presented her with a letter after they shook her awake, half scaring her to death while handing her the already opened mail. Through sleepy and squinted eyes, Charlotte skimmed across the text that read, "Congratulations! After reviewing your application, we've decided you'd be a perfect cantidate for our zoo's internship program!-" The rest was a bit of a blur as she looked to her parent's with confusion. "But, I never-" Her ecstatic parents were quick to talk over each other in quick succession and from the bits she could pick over their muddled mess of words, it seemed that they'd done what they had always been doing; they'd made a decision requiring Charlotte without actually asking Charlotte for her opinion on anything.
She was...angry, to say the least as she began packing her clothes away in a lilac colored suitcase. Her parents had signed her up for a summer internship program that would pick and choose where they wanted to place you for your internship. You went to the zoo and were basically their lackey for the duration of the small, or as they'd say 'opportune', hiring. Charlotte could only lament within herself over this, she'd probably got sent here because it was understaffed...
Her parents looked guilty as they helped her prepare and they kept explaining that they just 'wanted what was best' for her and she knew their intentions were nice. Ever since her M-Gene had kicked in, Charlotte had slowly been going out less and less and most of her summer had been spent sleeping, moping, and occasionally playing a game or two while keeping her hours at the local shelter on the weekends. That was about the most socialization she got on a weekly basis and she could see how it would worry them...but still, to do this without asking her!! Grumpy and a little petulant, Charlotte dragged her suitcase down the stairs with loud thumps at every step and her mother fawned over her while picking and fixing at her outfit.
"Charlotte, it's really really hot out, are you sure you want to wear this??" She gestured to Charlotte's long sweater, pale pink sweater; the fabric was downy soft and the ends of her sleeves were a little torn at the edges, showing its wear and tear. The skirt she'd chosen was a pale brown and it stretched just slightly past her knees which were covered by black stockings, decorated with faint rose shapes.
"Yes...it's better this way. It'll be hot...but I'll be okay." Charlotte mumbled softly while rubbing the sleep still from her eyes. It did suck that she had to go about it this way, but she couldn't imagine walking in an airport with anything less; any physical contact was more than enough to trigger her M-Gene, she got woozy at the thought of thousands of strangers accidentally bumping into her and causing contact.
"Alright...well, let's check your bag again! You'll be gone for a few weeks, so I just want to be sure..."
Charlotte had thought she was prepared, but after navigating her way through the living hell that was an airport, she found herself squished against the claustrophobic wall of the airplane with near tears in her eyes. Her head was screaming!! There were so many haywire emotions in a place like an airport and a plane wasn't any better; it was like a bottle filling against its cork! Some here were overjoyed, some were irritated, and some were just downright depressing with their feelings and she felt each one like an oncoming wave that never stopped. With shaky hands, Charlotte had delved into her small handbag that had comic pictures of dogs and cats along its small exterior and what she pulled out was a small bottle of pills her mother had given her; "It'll help you if you start feeling woozy, just take one, okay?", her mother's words echoed in her brain as she tried to swallow the one pill in her dry throat.
Sure enough, it took a few minutes, but Charlotte felt slowly relaxed. With her eyes closing slowly in a forced peace, she made thankful thoughts towards the doctor who'd diagnosed her anxiety disorder for giving her such nice medication; Charlotte shuddered to think of what a triggered attack on this plane would cause her to do.
Charlotte next opened her eyes when the crackled voice of her pilot came over the speakers, announcing their near departure. The nap had definitely taken off some of the edge and it safely evened out the emotions she'd been absorbing instead of bottle-necking them to bursting and that was the most help she could get here until she got to her paid for hotel room.
Getting off the plane had probably been the worst experience of her life. When everyone lined up to leave, she found her small body squished between two bigger ones and their closeness was suffocating; the man in front of her was horribly sad, he wasn't showing it, but it was choking him just like his held back tears. The man behind her was angry and irritated, probably because of how the flight took longer than he wanted, he was feeling a longing to leave and she could empathize with that...but it was getting bad being here, all she had to do was hold out until she could get off...
It was by some miracle that she'd gotten out without an accident and she made her way to baggage claim where she also met her chauffeur that held a sign with her name on it, and by chauffeur she just meant one of the zoo workers who greeted her with a smile. He was nice enough while guiding her to the work-provided van that advertised the San Jose zoo, but Charlotte knew the truth of his emotions. He was irritated, he didn't want to be here, was probably forced her by his job because he couldn't do anything else...he wasn't mad at her personally and he even seemed more confused than anything. Self-consciously, Charlotte began to rub a strand of her short and curly hair between her fingers; the white hair always put people a little off...but they made headway after introductions and he left her with a schedule and explained to her what she'd be doing. Which was just what she thought...grunt work.
That was how Charlotte found herself filled to the brim with disappointment outside of the expo that was in town, flyers in her hand and the stifling heat burning into her exposed back. She'd been told not to dress the way she was when she arrived and was given suggestions by her chauffeur from earlier. Shorts and a short sleeved shirt, no arguments allowed! Her brows were furrowed together as she personally lamented, shuffling from side to side at the discomfort of showing so much skin; her mother had packed her clothes, but they all felt a little too small...The plain black tank top she wore was unfortunately spaghetti strap and she didn't like the way it fit on her large chest, the design on the front had a series of paw prints in bright purples and her shorts were small, black, and annoyingly tight. The heat already made her clothes feel sticky, but this was the WORST. This bare with people pushing by to get into the expo and she was expected to stand out here and hand flyers out to advertise the zoo? The only thing she had even liked about this internship was the possibility of getting to work with the exotic animals and she wasn't even getting to do that. Not like she could argue though...she remembered how she clammed up when she wanted to argue about the flyers, but all she'd done was swallow it down sadly and take the dumb papers.
There was no way anyone was going to take these and she didn't have the confidence to start calling out to people to hand them flyers; Charlotte knew she'd be hit by wave after wave of irritation if she did that. Rubbing strands of her hair between her fingers again, Charlotte bit on her lip and looked up at the large building advertising the expo; what exactly was this for anyways? Taking a small look around, she didn't really see anyone watching her and the heat outside was killing her skin...what could it hurt to go inside for a little bit?
That was how she found herself inside. Fortunately there was air conditioning, but unfortunately it was PACKED and she hadn't brought anything with her to ease the edge off her empathy. "No no nooo..." She murmured softly to herself, looking up at the TV screens that advertised a woman named "Aeron Vespa"; between her growing tears, she faintly felt like she'd heard that name before.
Uriel read the Intel cache again as hopped off the VTOL airship. The head of a famous tech company was going to speak at an expo. His contacts had received notice of a major security threat and tasked him with protecting the VIP; Aeron Vespa. Uriel wasn't sure why he was being payed so much money to protect her other than the fact that she was an M-Gene carrier. The data was last minute and he could only muster 2 men to assist. He had no information on who the threat was or when they would attack, only that his contact was trusted. Truthfully his assignment was more shady that he would like. His gut was telling him this mission was bad news, the several figure payment told him otherwise. Uriel knew he needed to find this Aeron Vespa as fast as possible and warn her.

Batari leaned on a wall, studying the great masses of people passing by. Without Aeron here yet, it was really boring. Sure, anybody could be the assassin, but any worth their salt wouldn't stand out. It was practically pointless studying anybody. She'd just have to keep her eyes open and rely on her reflexes. Dull until that happened. She looked for something to pass the time. She had little interest in most of the tech garbage here, but one pale girl caught her interest. She looked thoroughly lost and out of place. Batari shrugged and walked up to her. Might as well.
"You lost, kid?" She took a flyer. Huh. A zoo. The convention seemed like an odd place to advertise. She supposed there were a lot of people standing around among smell, unwashed animals, willing to walk around for hours at a time. Maybe this was a great place to advertise. She might even go herself to pass the time later. It was all just passing time to her. Charlotte would read practically nothing from her. A near blank of emotion.
Terranea Resort, Southern Ca. - 6 hours prior to NAIE.
Ming rehearsed the data again, she was deployed a week ago to make a big hit today, perhaps the greatest of her career. the New Age Innovations Expo would bring Aeron Vespa into sight and she was not to leave alive from that event.
- "for quite some time the Vespa corp was against M-gene users and now they back them up, this can make investors and international organizations turn their head towards other big corps like mother's Fen-Xi...its a shame she will never approve of an open campaign in favor of M-gene users, specially not while she is secretly financing the anti M-gene nanomachine project, instead she would rather have Aeron dead and replaced by one of our puppet investors in Japan"
she donned a really fine red dress with gold lining for the event and packed her stuff, Aeron was to die from a sudden heart attack...or so people would think.
she headed down to the lobby of the hotel and adressed the Asistant Manager:
Ming- "im leaving, get my ride to the front door"
manager-"immediately, may i have the number for it?"
ming-"77, a red Lamborghini"
manager- "would the lady like to pay the bill while we bring her vehicle?"
Ming- "...oh, you werent noticed? the place had a change of administration last week, the Fen-Xi added this resort to their chain, The general manager should fill you in all the details.
outside, a Rosso Metis Lamborghini Veneno was waiting for her, she hopped into the drivers seat and stormed out of the place...this was to be the first New age innovations expo and also, the last.
Along the highway toward her private airfield where her jet to San Jose awaits; Aeron was weaving through the minimal traffic with professional precision. Her Aston Martin was fully customized by Aeron herself for maximum performance and thrill able to reach triple digits on speedometer in mere seconds. Each time she would shift the gears, the g-force would give a kick Aeron absolutely loved. Inside Aeron turn on the radio to listen to some music; she was able to catch the final chorus of one of her favorite songs by the rock band Tomomo Om & the Live Wires. Aeron was slightly disappointed it was near the end, but that didn’t stop her from turning it up and rocking out.
“ ♪Don’t care if you’re ready or not I’m heading for the top!... Better get outta my way, cause I’m a force that can’t be stopped!.... So if wanna to go toe to toe with me, then loser, expect no mercy!... I’m a girl with a lot of sass! I won’t pause to give you a swift kick in the ass! Cause I don’t care if you’re ready or not loser I’m heading for the top!....Better get outta my way cause I’m a force that can’t be stopped!.......Just can’t be stopped! ♪”
Aeron was bobbing her head and softly slapping the steering wheel in rhythm. After the song hit its last thunderous guitar note and faded out, the radio DJ came on the air speaking with unbridled enthusiasm. “That was the hit single “Heading for the Top” by San Diego’s own Tomomo Om & the Live Wires!’ Be sure to check them out this Labor Day weekend for end of their homecoming tour in San Diego! Tickets are going fast so if you don’t have one then what are you waiting for! Be there!!!”
“Freya, go ahead and purchase an exclusive VIP pass for that concert, I don’t want to miss that.” Aeron told the Freya OS inside her car. In less than a second Freya quickly responded to Aeron’s request “Your ticket has been purchased Ms. Vespa should arrive at the Vespa Estate within a day. Also you have a call coming in from Ms. Alisha Iverson.” Aeron had a slight smile on her face, with glee in her voice “Go ahead and patch it through, and Freya go ahead and take the wheel the rest of the way”. Aeron let go of the wheel and Freya took over from there, she was easily navigating her way on the road. Alisha appeared inside the windshield via live video feed. She was wearing a UCLA t-shirt with blue jeans, appropriate since she was now a student there.
“Hey Alisha, has been a few days since I’ve heard from you. How was the move to your dorm? Alisha had a bright smile on her face she was definitely excited about starting a new chapter in her life. “It has been fantastic Aeron; I wish I could be there with you going to NAIE. But I have classes now so I won’t be able to make it till later tonight. Thank you so much Aeron!” Alisha continued holding back her joyful tears. “You earned it Alisha there is no need to thank me” Aeron responded then continued;“ You were one of the reasons that I sought out to make the expo a reality. A chance for everyone to come together to solve the problems we currently face. Hmm looks like I’ll be at the airfield in a few minutes, get here when you can Alisha, the after party is going to be amazing as well.” Alisha composed herself after hearing Aeron’s words, they filled her with joy, and knowing she is going to help others the same way she helped her just added more layers to their relationship. “OK Aeron I’ll see you soon take care!” After those parting words Alisha hung up while Aeron’s care was coming to a stop at her private airfield.
Aeron exited her car while pulling out a pair of sunglasses and placing them on her face. Only a few meters in front of Aeron, her ebony and gold private jet with the Vespa Visionaries logo emblazoned on the sides was fueled and ready for takeoff. Aeron headed towards the staircase that leads into the main cabin. She was greeted by two male flight attendants appearing in their mid-20s; they were digitally constructed by Aeron herself wearing cobalt colored uniforms with the Vespa logo stitched in them. “Good morning Ms. Vespa!” the duo said in unison. Once inside the cabin the staircase was rolled away the doors were sealed, the pilot turned on the seatbelt lights and started to maneuver the plane into takeoff position. Unlike the flight attendants the pilot was a real person whom Freya called in earlier this morning, the engines began to roar rumbling the ground beneath it, soon the jet took off down the runway and started to lift into the sky. Aeron was now in the air on her way to San Jose.
NAIE was starting to get more and more packed with people eagerly awaiting the festivities to start. They wouldn’t have to wait too long now, word spread throughout the expo word spread throughout the expo that Aeron’s jet had just touched down and she was on the way. In the meantime several other CEO’s and other socialites began to descend to the expo; including the Ansley twins of Ansley Robotics a new and upcoming company. Reporter Sonata Hinamura got to the twins for a quick interview.
I’m Sonata Hinamura once of Diamond 7 news once again reporting from NAIE, where with me now I have Nialle and Nikita Ansley of the newly formed Ansley Robotics Corporation. Welcome to the expo you two!” Nialle was the first to speak with Sonata and return the greeting to her. “Happy to be here as well Ms. Hinamura, a chance to brainstorm with the world’s finest minds is an opportunity we couldn’t pass up.” Nikita took her turn to speak” I agree with my brother here should be a wonderful experience for us both.” They were well spoken and genuine to start of the interview, but then a question about Aeron was brought up. “Nialle, Nikita; What do you guys think of Aeron Vespa putting this together for humans and M-Gene during this rough period between the two?” Sonata asked. Nikita answered the question for the both of them. Trying to not let her personal hatred for Aeron make her slip out something that would her and Nialle a PR nightmare; “Aeron is not only a national treasure, but a worldwide one as well. Her philanthropy work has been truly special, hopefully events like these will become the norm, and we all have to thank Aeron for that.” Nikita gave a smile that was as phony as a $3 bill, deep down she felt like she was going to hurl, complimenting someone she truly believes caused her father to spiral into darkness, and take his own life in the end. As Nikita was getting ready to finish her statement a roar from the crowd behind her interrupted; A all black Phantom had rolled up to the gate. The chauffeur got out of his driver seat and headed to the back passenger side of the vehicle. He opened up the doors and Aeron Vespa came out to a thunderous eruption.
As Aeron walked towards the she was bombarded by countless camera flashes and along with deafening cheers. She took out a small pen started signing a few autographs some of the things signed were her magazine covers when she has done various interviews and photo shoots with. “Okay guys gather around” Aeron told a small section of people, without much hesitation they quickly complied, heading around the security barrier where Aeron was. Aeron pulled out her smartphone from her pocket and held it up to take a massive selfie with the expo goers. Some of them threw up the peace sign for the shot; Aeron then told them “Hey, no gang signs in the shot now.” The crowd looked at each other quite confused, Aeron chuckled then said to them “I’m just kidding go ahead and throw them up peace is fantastic!” The crowd cheered again as Aeron threw up the peace sign with them taking the shot. “Alright guys I’ll see you inside.”
Aeron then headed towards the entrance of the expo where she could feel the nice cool air conditioning. There was a podium and microphone along with a giant pair of scissors. It was for the ribbon for the inner sanctum of expo and also signaled that the Expo was going to officially begin. Aeron took the podium and tapped on the microphone sending some slight feedback showing her that it was working properly. “WOW…this turnout has been absolutely incredible. I’ll just be brief here, but all of your support here today just confirms what I have always said. That we should all come together, not just for me or you, but for the future of our home. I hope this expo with set the foundations of trust between humans and M-Gene users and strive for that better future, thank you now let’s get this show on the road!” Cheers and applause erupted once more after Aeron was finished with her short speech. She grabbed the large scissors and cut the ribbon the expo was officially under way.
"You lost, kid?" Charlotte winced and looked up at whoever spoke to her while lamenting over that word in her head. Kid? She wasn't THAT small... "Ah...no. Um I'm just...it was hot, I thought I'd come inside." Coming inside at that moment could have been the worst thing possible for her to do, for it seemed her timing was so horribly perfect that everyone was beginning to crowd in, people cheering over a hidden subject of attention. It wasn't much like Charlotte cared, but now they were blocking the entrance meaning she was stuck in here; like a fishbowl with too many fish bumping into each other, she was practically drowning in this feeling!
Charlotte spoke in a hurried tone that was higher than usual to Batari, "I'm sorry, I have to go, please think on visiting the zoo.," and she was quick to try and worm past the woman, but the conglomeration of bodies all shifting at once to allow whoever this "Aeron Vespa" in just made her push uncomfortably and awkwardly next to Batari's side instead where she simply let out a pathetic whimper. "I can't take much more of this, I'm going to explode..." Yet in the altercation of mingling bodies and loud cheering, Charlotte encountered one thing that eased her mind for just the faintest moment; her bare skin had pushed against Batari's for just long enough to allow the trickling cool of nothingness to ease its way into her throbbing head. Like a cool breeze over a hot landscape, it was a massive relief.
All good things come to an end though, for it was easily smothered again by the hectic emotions of the expo that burst open with the click of a pair of scissors. She just wanted to go home!! She could put up with this for maybe a few more minutes if she really tried...but she didn't want to be around when her bottled up feelings burst.
as Ming arrived she saw a massive crowd gathering around the entrance of the expo:
"it seems i am somewhat late, i think im getting kind of jelous from all the attention this diva gets..."
she hopped out of her car which drove away on its own, as she headed into the multitude those around her started to lower their chants until they were completely silent, their bodies began to tremble even though they didnt know why
"oh my!, seems i cant control my killing intent here, how unprofessional! even the commoneers are noticing...that way i am never gonna get past the bodyguards."
"guess ill use this as a way to get close"-she said with a small grin on her face
Ming silently grabbed a small needle and let a drop of blood bleed out of her body, the nanomachines immediately flew on the air tracking the surroundings and also got into the bodies of the multitude, after a couple of seconds the nanomachines came back with the feedback:
"well this is interesting, there are some M-gene users blended in the multitude...those women over there huh?,well...i would still have noticed her with that extravagant hair for a mile, she looks strong and has a weapon, obviously she's one of the bodyguards, but the little girl with her cant possibly be a bodyguard, unless her abilities are so great she doesnt need a weapon with her...might as well evade both."
but Ming had rambled for too long now, she opened her way into the multitude and got closer to where Aeron Vespa was, as soon as the expo began she would have all the time in the world to track her down.
Uriel stepped out of the dull olive van. His two soldiers followed close behind him and slung their las-rifles across their chest. With a wave of his hand the two soldiers broke away from him and walked off into the crowd. Uriel knew that if if it came to a firefight the soldiers would be useless, the tightly packed civilians would make it impossible to get a shot. Instead their eye-catching body armor might deter an outright attack. While listening to the opening speech one of the soldiers pinged his comm; "Blue-Six Blue-Six. Commissar i have an unidentified contact, she's an Indonesian about 5'6. Likely concealed carry. She could be on bodyguard detail" Uriel knew his men would keep their distance and watch her but he wanted to confirm her contact, Uriel hated unknown contacts. "Six-Blue" "I'll identify status on the woman, resume search for other contacts" Uriel pushed through the crowd to towards the Indonesian woman who had been marked by soldier Six. It was hard to get through the crowd and Uriel began to call out "Staff coming through move out of the way!" Eventually he stood before the woman. Uriel cleared his throat and asked "Ma'am i presume you are the acting bodyguard of miss Vespa?" " We need to talk about a security threat"
Post by Prophet_of_Plague on Aug 31, 2016 3:18:28 GMT
"Heh. I'll look into it." Batari pocketed the flyer and turned to find herself face to face with a man whose arms were not nearly so concealed as hers. The only thing that made her stand out at the moment was her extravagant hair. She was otherwise inconspicuous in the garb of a Convention employee, hundreds of whom swarmed in the building. "Security threat? Like a bunch of open carry idiots drawing attention to themselves?" Batari looked bored at the heavily armed man in front of her. Pity he didn't seem to be a threat. She wanted to throw down already.
Uriel grimaced at the womans terse reaction. "Ma'am there is a serious threat to Ms.Vespa's life; i'm assuming you are her bodyguard yes?" His hand instinctively went to his sword and pistol. The soldier accompanying him popped his las-rifle off his chest clip and powered it on. "Now I'm going to ask you one more time-" Both his comm and radio buzzed to life "Blue Nine! Blue Nine! This is Blue Nine!" Calling out your number a third time was a signal for a critical situation. Uriel barked into his comm "Nine Blue Nine Blue report the situation" "Blue Nine, Red haired Chinese woman located at the entrance of the building. moving to engage" "Nine Blue, copy that engage target but don't fire until i arrive" Uriel turned towards Blue Six and pointed at the woman. "Don't let these two out of your sight." he pushed through the crowd towards the entrance.
Blue Nine shouted for the crowd to disperse and leveled his las-rifle at the Chinese woman. His rifle had powered up and synced with his combat armor. A straight green lance appeared on his HUD, he lined it up with the woman and it turned to red with a small blip. Blue Nine was terrified of this woman but he steeled himself and called out "Halt! Dont fucking move a muscle!" He knew that his triple plated alloy armor would protect him from conventional threats but who knows what this woman could do?
A figure, hiding under a dark cloak, silently moves along the shadows of the alleyways. This carefully individual occasionally turns her head towards the direction of a potential onlooker and carefully adjust her body to remain hidden from sight. Anyone who manages to spot her would find her behavior and attire to be extremely suspicious and come to the conclusion that she is an assassin, but Zoe Creed isn't here to kill anyone. The reason for her current garment is that her appearance could potentially start trouble, and usually she welcomes trouble head on. But today is too important to waste on unnecessary conflicts. As she steps closer and closer to her destination, she feels that an extra amount of weight has been placed on her shoulders due to the significance of the upcoming event. Yet, she isn't so interested in what would happen between the regular humans and her kind, but in the potential of witnessing a glimpse of the truth behind this world. For a sign of divinity, or something greater out there. And to hopefully discover the meaning behind her existence.
The expo was underway with hundreds of people checking out the wide array of booths of companies showing off their goods. Aeron was happy that not only was she a presenter here, but she could also fan girl out on some of the new innovations in technology available now and in the not so distant future. Weaving through the crowd and stopping for the occasional photo op, Aeron’s eye caught a booth of great interest to her. “Thornsby Genetics, wow so they are here too! Aeron thought to herself as she approached their booth. The Thornsby Genetic booth had a simple and sophisticated setup; it was filled with various caged animals mostly of the reptile variety. Most of them appeared to be comfortable and happy in their cages.
Then and man in a white lab coat ran up to Aeron calling out to her. “Ms.Vespa! Welcome to our booth!” With a smile he extended his hand to her. “Dr. Simon Thornsby hello great to you made it here!” Aeron said as she accepted his hand shake. With a bright smile on his face followed by a chuckle he answered her saying “Please just call me Simon, Aeron. I know my wife Isabella would love to meet you as well”
Aeron eyes lit up with joy that Dr. Isabella Thornsby here as well; she knew that Dr. Thornsby doesn’t make many public appearances. The duo walked over to the middle of the Thornsby Genetics exhibit where they met Dr. Isabella Thornsby herself. She was wearing a similar lab coat like her husbands, but what stood out to Aeron the most was her beautiful red hair. “My my Ms. Aeron Vespa, glad to see you here at our exhibit” Isabella said to Aeron extending her hand in greeting.
Aeron has overjoyed to finally met Dr. Thornsby in the flesh she without hesitation extended her hand in greeting as well. “Dr. Thornsby I read all your books on genome therapy and your theories of the future of the M-Gene itself truly impressive work.” Isabella had a smile her face” You flatter me Aeron, can I call you Aeron? You can call be Isabella. We are both friends and scientists looking for a better tomorrow” Aeron nodded with approval agreeing with what she said. Isabella continued to talk to Aeron about her work, “Now Aeron what if I told you that the future of the M-Gene may not be a theory at all. What if it was a stepping stone to something greater? I have some proof of my work that I would like to share with you, perhaps over dinner tonight?
The chance of actually picking Dr. Isabella Thornsby mind and discuss things like the M-Gene itself was too good of an opportunity to pass up. “Isabella that would be absolutely fantastic I’m there” The two of them exchanged number and gave a few parting words. Freya then called out to Aeron through her small ear piece. “Ms. Vespa it appears we have a situation near the front of the expo” “*sigh… I’m on my way Freya"
Once Aeron returned to the entrance to the expo, she saw the crowd was in a state of panic. Some heavily armed men held a young Chinese woman at gun point. In understandable fashion she shouted her disproval to Aeron “Hey Vespa! Your security is an exaggeration! If you know who I am tell your men to stand down.” The woman did look familiar to Aeron, but she couldn’t quite place her. Also Aeron had never seen these men before, and wondered what the hell was going on here. An bystander had already called the police, and a swat team was currently on the way here. “Freya, use the facial recognition program to ID who these people are. Hack the pentagon intel if you have to.” Once Aeron gave a quick order to Freya, Aeron then returned her attention to the standoff especially the men who had the woman at gun point. “Look I don’t know who you are and I never hired you, so what are you people doing here?” Freya then gave a report on her findings
“The woman is Ming-Xu Long an assassin wanted for questioning for various international incidents. “An assassin!?” Aeron thought to herself. “She turned to face Ming and shouted “Why are you here! What do you want?” As she ask those two important questions to Ming a SWAT vehicle had pulled up to the entrance of the expo.
Five men heavily armed exited the vehicle. Aeron thought it was strange that there were only five of them; The one of them shouted towards the entrance of the expo “THERE CAN NEVER BE PEACE BETWEEN US!!!!!” Aeron quickly shouted to everyone EVERYONE GET DOWN!!! All five of them began to fire heavy machine gun rounds into the expo entrance. Aeron quickly dived behind a table; all she could hear were the screams of innocent bystanders as their bodies were getting torn apart by gunfire. Fires started to spread throughout the expo. One of the deranged gunman spoke out to Aeron in the midst of destruction. “Aeron Vespa, the foolish hope you had for a world united dies tonight!!! Along with you and your legacy!”
Ming knew this situation was all too weird, not only vespa had info on her as an assasin, but the target group arrived earlier than she expected.
The nanomachines stopped the program that was modifying her personality as the five men began shooting, Ming in that moment jumped in front of vespa to shield her from the gunfire.
as the bullets ricochetted off her skin, she said to her:
"we have to get you out of here, im with the P.L.A, and you are not to die here!"
Ming's plan was ruined, vespa was to have a fake death at the end of the expo and the killers would have left her alone. now ming's identity as a double agent was at risk and vespa would have to deal with those people.
"the M-gene users on your side should be more than a match for those guys, lets use that as cover to get out of here!"
Uriel instinctively ducked, a split second later bullets flew overhead. He bellowed at the people standing around him "HEADS DOWN! EVERYONE GET DOWN!". He could hear Nine yelling over the comms "BLUE NINE CONTACT! 5 ENEMIES AT ENTRANCE OF BUILDING!-WE HAVE A RED ON GREEN SITUATION, HEAVY CIVILIAN CASUALTIES". "Nine-Blue, engage! engage!", he ordered nine. Uriel sprinted towards the beacon that marked the Chinese woman's position. Out of the corner of his eye he could see the telltale red streaks of las-fire as Nine engaged the 5 shooters. Uriel knew that the crowd would make it near impossible for Nine to get an accurate shot, the most he could do was hope the shooters would focus fire on him rather than civilians. Uriel turned his attention back to the Chinese woman and spotted her talking to another woman. His HUD immediately identified her as Aeron Vespa. He pulled his bolt pistol free and broke into a full sprint, pushing his body to its limit as he closed the distance between him and the two women. In the last 5 feet he launched himself into a dive and tackled the Chinese woman. He grabbed an arm and twisted it behind her back while sitting on top of her. With other arm he jabbed her in the back with his Bolt pistol. "Ms. Vespa i'm a bodyguard here to protect you please stay low! One of my men will be here soon to escort you to safety. Where are your own bodyguards?" He asked her and then radio'ed "Six Blue on my location now!" "Blue-Six copy that, moving to your location!" . Uriel wished he had a full squad and not just 2 men to back him up. He shook the Chinese woman and ordered her "It would be in your best interest to tell me everything that you know".
The expo was, at a point, as calm as it could have been for Charlotte, but then the sudden commotion outside decided to end that. She rubbed at her forehead with one hand, holding her flyers in a trembling hand with the other and debating on how quickly she could leave this silly expo that she knew nothing about. Then the first series of gunshots went out and she felt the papers leave her hand in a scatter while she clapped her hands over her ears, kneeling down with a whimper as panic forced its way into her body at a rate she couldn't possibly handle.
Everyone was scared, rattled, horrified; there were people dying around her and the final feelings of someone losing their mortality wasn't something she could comprehend safely. Charlotte's throat was burning and every breath was frantic, her eyes were closed tightly and she felt her body become unmoving, stone-like as she shoved her head against her knees, trying so hard to make herself as small and compact as possible. She thought that if she could be smaller, maybe she could have held it all in better.
With thoughts of havoc and fear intrusively violating her mind, Charlotte felt her tightly packed emotional body burst. One moment she was full of everyone's emotions, cramped and scared, hard to breathe and forcing her head to screech like a never-ending screen and then the next, there was nothing; for just a heavenly moment, she was blank. That was when all her pent up energy forced its way out the only way it knew how, a small-grade psychic force that, in such a pent up space, sent people flying and windows to break, blowing flame, body, and glass far away from her and leaving her at a shaky epicenter.
She felt fine for just that moment as nothing registered, only to promptly throw up right after. This was just...too much.
the M-gene user Ming lost track of suddenly released quite an impressive ammount of energy, creating more than enough chaos to give Ming a frame to free herself from the lock and disarming the man.
"you are planning on making an interrogation here? are you crazy? ill tell you what i know after we get out of here"
ming immediately gave the man his gun back, they were gonna need him.
-as these events were happening it became evident that the pale girl was just too noticeable in the midst of the gunfire, she was now a confirmed M-gene user and those people wouldnt hestitate to attack her
Ming rushed as fast as she could and grabbed the girl by her clothing pulling her out of the harms way
"im getting you out of here, hold tight"
both rushed back to the point where Vespa and the man were.
Zoe couldn't hear the gunshots, but she could sense one terrible action after another, making her reconsider taking another step further. Yet, she couldn't help but think about the vulnerable crowd being torn to pieces. "The poor innocent bystanders" she thought. "Is no one going to save them?" After a few moments to debate her next step, the clocked figure breaks out into a sprint. Though she is far from being the fastest person in world, her legs carry her forward with purpose as she tries to get to the expo. As she approaches, she feels a small psychic bomb go off. Yet, she doesn't register a hostile intention behind the sudden explosion. "An accident then? Likely someone gifted must of been too stressed out by the sudden violence to maintain control." she concluded. She continues to run towards the danger as she tries to pick out who are the villains behind this massacre.

Batari saw Uriel's men shooting in a thick crowd and lunged for him. Whoever this guy was, enemy of Aeron or overenthusiastic supporter or some third option, he wasn't good to have around. She launched a kick for his side while he was atop the red headed girl, aiming to break at least one rib. Fuck this guy. She didn't get another off before Charlotte erupted. She just heard the howl of wind before incalculable force threw her head over heels. She landed with a roll, avoiding serious injury, and came up looking for the girl. Shit. She was a sister. And it didn't look like she took well to bullets.
Batari saw the woman who was being shot at before pulling her away. "You stupid fuck! Tried to shoot a random woman and you can't even do that right!" She threw a punch at Uriel's nose as she passed, chasing the Chinese woman. She dodged and weaved through the panicked crowd, shoving and striking where she had to to make her way. She approached Ming from behind and jumped to wrap her arms around the woman's legs. It was about the hardest takedown she was willing to do to somebody whose motivations she didn't understand.
