Akabane originally hails from Babylon City, the "base" universe which the world of GetBackers is a twisted reflection of. Certain tragic circumstances has awakened him as a "Transcendental", individuals who spontaneously developed supernatural powers by sheer force of will, and had their position on the universe's temporal axis displaced. As such, Akabane exists in his own intrinsic flow of time, separate from that of the world's.
Divine Providence (Quantum Manipulation): Simply put, that which Akabane cannot imagine cannot occur. His power is analogous to the uncertainty principle in quantum mechanics. So long as he does not observe (i.e. imagine) a certain possibility, the wave function associated with it will not experience collapse and occur within reality in a distinct fashion.
For example, because Akabane cannot imagine (i.e. observe) the possibility of his own death, he will not die, even if his entire body is reduced to a single drop of blood, he would wholly regenerate immediately as if nothing happened (see VS Masaki). If there is a certain power derived based on the concept of "a knife that can cut through anything", it would be dispelled in Akabane's presence, as he cannot imagine such a thing (see VS Masaki) [note that he negated Masaki's photon knives before he was made aware of their nature. it is because he cannot imagine their nature to begin with that it couldn't manifest].
Even if Akabane were to observe the possibility of his own death and vanish, he would continue to survive in a non-corporeal form, capable of attacking from across the beyond (see VS Ban, in Get Back The Lost Time).
Note that this ability is passive in nature, Akabane does not need to actively deny imagining a possibility in order to nullify it.
Houjutsu (Logic Manipulation): Akabane is capable of, to a limited extent, manipulating the very logic of reality itself, its "rules" and "laws" (see the Beltline section within thread #4 linked at the top).
He has first demonstrated this power in his confrontation with a Beltline monster, whose existence was in turn maintained purely by a powerful line of logic that acted as a substitute for its lack of a soul [i.e. Houjutsu], rendering it invincible and immortal (see Houjutsu & Other Combat Feats).
He obliterated said monster by creating and applying the following line of logic:
"The 'low' cannot stand against the 'high'".
That very principle overpowered the Houjutsu powering said entity, erasing it from this world. Although Akabane's line of logic wasn't explained, it can be inferred that, because Beltline monsters are inherently inferior to Akabane due to his overwhelming power, then relatively speaking, they would be the "low" and he would be the "high". Thus, by applying this line of logic, were one to stand against him, they would be automatically obliterated in an immediate fashion, regardless of whether they were maintained by an opposing line of Houjutsu or not.
Combat Style & Techniques: Akabane is a highly skilled fighter that utilises his combat instincts/experience, vicious intelligence, as well as his intimate knowledge of the human anatomy and its workings, acquired during his time as a battlefield surgeon, to overwhelm the opponent with lethal strikes, while simultaneously analysing their fighting style and physical condition, constantly adapting and changing his methodology for the sake of efficiency.
The doctor is a proficient wielder of edged weapons. His body is implanted with 108 titanium alloy scalpels (previously steel- changed to avoid having them magnetised, like what happened during his second fight with Ginji), which he could project at will, either launching a hail of scalpels at opponents with mind-boggling accuracy (and freely controlling their trajectory via psychokinesis), or slicing them to ribbons in melee combat.
He also has the uncanny ability to project the physical slashing force of his scalpels outwards, making his range deceptively longer than what it seems to be. The mechanism behind this mysterious power is unclear.
On top of that, his senses have been developed to superhuman levels, as he is able to acutely sense Ki/Qi and blood-lust in his vicinity. He also has the mysterious power to resist the effects of high-temperatures (VS Lightning Lord), as he endured the Lightning Lord's plasma blasts, which burn at temperatures of 10,000 degrees Kelvin at minimum (references: 1, 2).
Beguiling his slim figure, Akabane's physical strength is immense, able to defend against Ban Mido's powerful strikeswith his bare hands. He could also release his aura to instil fear into the hearts of those in his proximity.
Another mysterious power he possess is the ability to defy gravity, being able to float in the air and stand on slant or perpendicular surfaces (relative to the ground).
Akabane had developed a number of deadly techniques, honed over what is possibly decades of combat (as a Transcendental, Akabane is likely much older than what his appearance might imply, as he exists in a unique/independent flow of time):
- Bloody Rain: Throws scalpels into the air, which rain down on the opponent with so much accuracy that they track them, as if predicting their movements, and aim for their vitals.
- Bloody Cross: Akabane's usual sure-kill technique. Projects an invisible slashing wave from a cross pattern on his palm, quadrisecting the opponent with ease.
- Bloody Shield: A psychokinetic barrier centred on a circular arrangement of scalpels. He can generate several shields around him at once.
- Bloody Hurricane: Psychokinetically forms a razor hurricane of scalpels that surround the opponent from all sides and home in on them.
- Bloody Stream: A stream of scalpels thrown en masse with immense accuracy, aiming for an opponent's vitals.
- Bloody Sagittarius: A homing hail of scalpels aimed at the opponent's limbs, pinning them down.
- Bloody Stake: An accurate jet of scalpels that explode into blasts of energy upon contact with an object/surface.
Blood Manipulation: Akabane has the power to manipulate his own blood, and create solid constructs from it. Anything that mixes with his blood can also be turned into a weapon, as seen when he transformed Kagami's Diamond Dust into scalpels (see VS Kagami Kyoji, in Return to Infinity Fortress).
Much like with his scalpels, he had also developed techniques based on this power:
- Bloody Sword: A sword he creates from his own blood, Akabane's main weapon. It has the power to slice through dimensions (see first feat under Get Back The Lost Time section) and project razor sharp waves of energy.
- Bloody Lance: A lance he creates from his own blood.
- Bloody Avatar: A massive number of clones he can create from his own blood. They seem to be at least comparable to him in combat capability.
Darkness Manipulation: Dr. Jackal has the power to control darkness itself, able to wield crushing waves of dark energy.
- Bloody Darkness: Akabane extends his own shadow at high speed, and releases a blast of dark energy from within it.

Taka: My favorite episode in Samurai Champloo was probably Ep 22.

Dream: The one with zombies excavating for treasure? Think that one's the most out there of episodes in the series. Mine's probably the one involving Mugen busting a counterfeit coin ring while trying to get nookie from a ninja girl disguised as a prostitute.

Master Menos: Updates complete. As for a life update, I'm quitting my fast food job soon. Was good for my very first job, but things are getting FAR too chaotic for my tastes.

Dream: Far as job front goes on my end, still waiting on projects to start up with my freelance job. Beyond that, nothing new for other work in my search.

Dream: Just completed Spice and Wolf. Plan to work on a review for it sometime tomorrow. Too late to have any inhibition to get one done from my end.

Dream: Last anime I will be covering is Gankutsuou: Count of Monte Cristo. Will start watching it tomorrow. Not sure how much longer I can keep myself up at this point.
Feb 7, 2020 5:19:21 GMT
Taka: Depending on my energy, I can watched up to 2 AM. Usually with work, I fall asleep on anime series that don't have a lot of action.

Master Menos: Finally got out of the fast food job. It was a graceful exit, but to be honest, I'll miss some of those guys. Got a sprained ankle from it since September, so I'll finally focus on healing that back at the family home.

HungryWorld: Well if anyone remembers what happened to Pingu in the City, with it being joke 10/10 scored on MAL just to get it into the top 10 anime... well now is Ishuzoku Reviewers' turn. Seems that in response to Funimation's cancel people boosted the score hard.
Feb 11, 2020 2:11:38 GMT
Taka: What? That sounds so weird.
Feb 11, 2020 5:36:23 GMT
Master Menos: It's damn awesome to be honest. It shot to 1st Place!

Dream: On the subject of MAL, it looks like the admin are planning to tweak their scoring system for titles to reduce the likelihood of voters artificially inflating the ranking of certain titles.

Master Menos: My V-Day present will be belated this year because I "Had some trouble with ol' Johnny." (That's your hint.)

Dream: The joys of adulthood. Joking aside, plan to at least attempt to wrap up Gankutsuou sometime early to mid next week so I can get done with my Funi voted titles. Afterward, not doing any more voting for a while considering how long this had been taking.
