Class issues aren't a big thing in the present. It's more about equity for gender and race nowadays. Black Clover is really dredging this theme. Black Clover becomes a harem jokingly when Mimosa says she's in love with Asta because of his character and his "body" causing Noel to be blushing, wondering why she cares.
Asta reminds me of Luffy or Ace. They don't care if you bad mouth them but if you badmouth their friends, then they fight back and defend you.
Bit of a slow episode, the guys should know not to bombard Asta with attacks if he can neutralize them. Think outside of the box. Asta isn't invincible 100%. Enhance your powers be faster than his swings, or make your attacks faster than his swings.
still in the zombie fight. Bit slow pacing since not much progress was shown. Just showing off every new character abilities against these zombies which is the purpose of the episode. On top of that, Noelle gets character development with help of the fire guy who is somewhat psychic, knows what doubting her, her siblings.
Was thinking about Asta's character. The whole class inequality and bashing on peasants doesn't really get incorporated in Asta as part of his struggle to become Wizard King. It's more of Yuno. The only other issue is the lack of magic for a guy who wants to be magic king. Anti-magic abilities kind of circumvents it.
Egads, I forgot to comment on the last Black Clover episodes. Sometimes, I fall behind hence no comment. Or I do watch the shows but I forgot to comment every week.
I just comment Ep. 26 which is the penultimate episode of the zombies attacking the city arc or whatever the arc name is.
The arc's purpose was to show more of the Black Clover kingdom particularly the elite mages that Julius awarded with Asta and Yuno's group in tow who show promise to the king who acknowledges but the elitists don't really acknowledge Asta and Yuno's group.
Some things have change in favor notably the Vermillion group but they weren't elitists to begin with. Not much change in outlooks. Oh one group is sexist towards men. We had a lot of "isms."
This episode shows off Julius's powers and I can see why Anime Vice Black Clover fans love the character. Being overpowered can lead to cockiness. He didn't bother to rescue Asta and bring the captured mages to the kingdom for question. He was showing off his time magic and interrogate them in enemy territory. His logic was off.
And Asta is still human. Even if he can nullify magic, he's not invincible. His existence is a conumdrum to his dream of becoming Wizard King. He has no magic, but he has anti-magic which is the only chance he has. However, that hurts his character because he can't really do much if he didn't have anti-magic. No amount of hard work will get him to his dream of being Wizard King. This is unlike Naruto's dream where Kage doesn't really need to be best ninja and best ninjutsu. None of the Hokages needed to be demon hosting vessel. That was Naruto's crutch to give him an advantage in the competition.
The magic that beats time in this franchise is light because it's "faster." That doesn't really make any sense. For battle forum usage, I can see it being abused. Time magic is usually broken. To beat it, time magic should be used or anti-magic.
Anyways, Asta has 2 girls and Klaus as "admirers" even if Noelle is a big tsundere. She had tsundere scenes, too in this episode. Yuno has one admirer.
It might have been filler but I actually enjoyed it, the mixer episode
For once, it was fun and shows an endearing part of Asta and the Black Bulls. I never seen Noelle so tsundere and thinking she's in love. Asta has another love interest, Rebecca. You know Asta, he's in love with Sister Lily. This is slowly becoming a harem anime.
Are we in a filler arc? I was surprised to see Rebecca. Why are the fillers fun to watch than the actual plot in Black Clover?
Gauche? is featured and all of his siscon stuff. If he didn't waste his time buying stuff, he would have time with his little sister. Instead, her heart is stolen by Asta. I didn't expect that. Asta's harem is growing even more
Noelle following Asta and getting jealous is now pretty much a running gag
Didn't expect this "filler arc" to be long. Unless it's not a filler. There is a lot of padding; however. They could just easily beat the two mages (I don't know if the older brother is a mage) and save the children.
The only part I enjoy was the Petit Clover segment, the end of the episode segment, where both Noelle and Rebecca kept asking each other about Asta in a friendly quiz. They know Asta well
Gauche is on the worst spectrum for siscon characters - probably the worst Black Bull member for me
I thought Black Clover was supposed to be heavy on the nakama stuff. The Black Bull guild is pretty incompetent in responding to a help request.
The situation's danger level escalated now when stereotypical mad scientist girl shows up. Hell breaks loose.
Oh yeah, Asta does have another flaw - he has no swordsmanship. He wields it like a mad man. That's one way to avoid his anti-magic attacks.
I hope this arc was going to end. I think this isn't filler if it's this long. I mean filler arcs in other anime are longer than Black Clover like Bleach's. For Black Clover, I don't read the manga and have no interest in it. I'm left to guess right now. Canon or not, so far the arcs have been boring. Only saving grace for me is the terrible, cliche romantic humor
Gauche's backstory doesn't really make me feel bad for the guy. I can see prison time turned him into a siscon. His character redeem himself. Asta and Gauche both defeat the mud monster. Victory didn't last long when Licht the light guy who attack Asta and King Julius a few episodes ago arrive
Next episode is Licht vs Yami. I should have seen it coming for the names. Licht is "light" in Scottish while Yami is "darkness" in Japanese. I hope the animation would be good. I have low expectations as Black Clover doesn't really garner much only a cult following.
I should have realized Yami was a foreigner due to his name. That's the only hint though. There is a land of the east in this series. Though, ki and magic - bit too much for Asta to bite on. Plus, for a series to be all about magic - adding ki feels out of place. This isn't one of those franchises that has the flexibility to work with different things like superhero comics such as Justice League and Avengers.
One other thing - the choreography for Yami and Licht's fight is strange. It's very repetitive. When they do fight without talking for a while, their movements feel stiff and doll like. Speaking of talking, Yami wouldn't shut up. His jokes ruins the tension with Licht who acts like a good guy caring for his comrades with his backstory. We get two backstories - Yami and Licht. Yami feels like a joke though.
By this week's episode, I realize how stale the arc has gone
What started out like filler kidnappers, it ended up in two and now three worth of reinforcements: the crazy immodest scientist stereotype, the big bad Licht (probably no longer the big bad), and Three Eyes
Black Clover like most Shonen will eventually suffer from having too big of a character roster and not doing a good job of balancing
I realize the only entertaining scene I like in Black Clover is the unrequited love in Asta's harem which now includes Klause. I do have to wonder if Noelle's character is just going to be a love interest for Asta instead of being her own character and then crushing on Asta. I enjoyed Rebecca stealing a kiss from Asta's cheek to spite Noelle.
Everything else was okay. It's too tempting to guess the traitor is the masked captain.
Taka: Virtual anime conventions - this year has been taking twists and turns. People are making adjustments. I think I spend over 100 dollars every time I go to Anime Expo each year (counting in total of badge cost, food, transportation, and merchandise).

Taka: I'll be saving money. Though, the pandemic has caused a lot of folks to have reduced hours, took time off, or laid off. Most folks' disposable income is a bit tight.

Taka: So Tenchi Geminar has a school full of mostly girls just like Infinite Stratos and many harem shows.
Jul 8, 2020 6:50:40 GMT
Dream: Yeah. After Tenchi Muyo, Masaki Kajishima dabbled into several other harem titles, some of which not being based in the Tenchi timeline, which all have the same resolution of where the male lead "has them all." But they aren't really as popular.

Taka: I need to finish Geminar and GXP. Just cancel FUNimation which leaves me until July 23rd unless there are at least 3 shows that catch my eye from this season.
Jul 9, 2020 3:27:17 GMT
Dream: Believe GXP was pulled from Funi's streaming site last year because their digital rights to the series expired. But you should still be able to stream War on Geminar on their site.
Jul 9, 2020 13:36:38 GMT
Taka: Darn, for some reason I thought it was still there. I finished Geminar. Well, I guess I proceed and watch the rest of those OVAs on CR.
Jul 10, 2020 1:37:08 GMT
Taka: I think I can write a review on Geminar. I wished I made a discussion thread and kept notes on it. I tend to forget small details and make mistakes when interpreting character actions.
