Hello everyone and welcome to the results for the best manga series of 2016 as voted for by you. Below you will see the top 10 series in ascending order from 1, followed by the 10 closest runner ups. Each series will have a small blurb of commentary for it done by select members of staff.
Once again thank you very much for voting and hopefully your favourite series managed to crack the top 10.
1st - The Seven Deadly Sins
"A steady mainstream in the battle forum, you can always count on NNT to have a loyal legion of fans, and for good reason. The manga boosts a lovable cast of friends around Meliodas, the main protagonist, to help him fight off both the demons of the real world and his inner demon. What sets this series apart from others is its ability to keep the audience guessing. Just when you think the danger has past, the enemy appears, sometimes in the most unlikely of places. A well deserved Champion for 2017."
"A Pre-Arthurian based series that tells the story of a princess and seven knights. This has been a good year for 7DS with mutliple plot revelations and amazing fight sequences. With still plenty of epicness left we may see it again on the list next year."
2nd - One-Punch Man
"If you're looking for tons of action, drama, comedy and just a hint of insanity, look no further than One-Punch Man. This series has been setting the anime and manga world ablaze with its soaring popularity and absolutely fantastic story line. I think we can all connect with Saitama, a seemingly ordinary member of society who is suddenly endowed with powers beyond his wildest dreams. What makes Saitama so amazing is that he never lets the power go to his head. With his strength he could easily rule the world but instead he chooses the noble path the Hero. Sometimes being a true Hero is tough and OPM does an excellent job of showing us how even in a world of Heroes, violence and corruption are only step away. I'm predicting OPM to be our next Champion in 2018."
"A parody series similar to Medaka Box. While the main character is pretty bland the side characters more than make up for it. A solid choice for number 2."
3rd - One Piece
"The old veteran still has it, coming in third place in 2017. Its easy to see why we all love One Piece. The cast makes of us laugh, cry and awe all in the same week. For those of us who love the Shounen series template, One Piece is a constant and reliable member of almost everyone's Top 10."
"A true veteran in manga. One Piece is a long running series about a Pirate that hasn't quite realized what being a pirate means. With no end in sight One Piece will be a occupant for this list for years to come."
4th - Berserk
"Few series have the power and awe of Berserk. The tragedy of Guts' story is something we just can't get enough of. Watching him grow from childhood to an adult and cutting his way through life is a journey you can't miss! Its an emotional roller coaster ride that I never want to end!"
"The gory manga about the the manley man Guts. With almost 30 years since it's first release this old dog still has some bite to it. I give you ranked number 4 Berserk."
5th - Fairy Tail
"Fairy Tail officially ended in 2017. A popular fan favorite and common name in the battle forums. Yes we all like to give Fairy Tail a bad name due to its inconsistencies and plot holes but we have to remember: Mashima didn't write this story for the battle forums, he wrote it to entertain his fans. So I ask you all, were you not entertained? Look at it from that standpoint and you'll see why Fairy Tail truly deserves to be in the Top 5!"
"This nakama filled manga while recently came to a end. However the series did go out with a bang with both major villains being beat after some very hard earned fights. It didn't deliver much on relationships like Rave Master did however it brought the same action we grew to love over the years."
6th - Black Clover
"Poor Asta, to be born without Magic in a world that resolves around Magic is a curse few can bare. Don't worry Asta, you are the main character in a Shounen, I'm sure something amazing will happen to turn your luck around. A typical shounen with a predictable plot and almost seems like the bastard love child of Naruto and Fairy Tail. Now even having said that, I must admit, I love Black Clover. What really sets Black Clover apart from other series is the versatility of its Magic. You've got character who can make typical attacking spells and they turn around and make an entire battlefield map with their magic. The creativity with their Magic is simply amazing!"
"The story of a talentless fool and his quest to become Hokage I mean Wizard King. The series is very easy to get into however it does seem like a bit of a fusion of Fairy Tail and Naruto. That being said it is still a very enjoyable Shonen Title."
7th - My Hero Academia
"Take 1 part Naruto, mix in 2 parts One Punch-Man and add a dash of Black Clover and you've got My Hero Academia. I'll be honest, this is definitely not my favorite series. The plot is predictable, the characters are cookie cutter and their abilities simply lack imagination. What this series really has going for it though are its battles. Some of the better battles of 2017 have come from My Hero Academia. I have to admit, I do love All Might though lol."
"Another shonen series this time taking inspiration from western comicbooks namely Superheroes. While the protagonist is a typical shonen one the super powered fights make up for it. The series is just getting started and has more to show."
8th - Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic
"Oh Magi, my love, why did you have to end? Probably one of the best series I've ever read. It combines battles, magic, action, economics, politics, classes, races all into one beautiful story. Its hard to describe just how good the Magi story is. From the characters, to the amazing plot to the absolutely stunning artistry, its easy to see why Magi was the Champion last year. Between Aladdin and Alibaba its hard to say who is the better character. Both have the power to move the world and they will forever be two of my favorite characters of all time."
"A One Thousand and One Nights inspired manga about a young Magi and his King Candidate. Like Fairy Tail Magi recently ended and while it had awesome fights the ending felt slightly rushed. That being said I still enjoyed the ride to the end."
9th - Tokyo Ghoul:re
"While I will admit I haven't read this or its predecessor I have seen several scans of both that make me want to read it. I can't say much for the plot however I do have to say the visuals look good."
"The continuation of Tokyo Ghoul. It doesn't live up to the first series if I had to be honest. The villains in the first part stand out than the villains in the 2nd part. There was a special character who is not a villain who stands out above the rest. Tokyo Ghoul handles identity well especially with gender and species. You will see that. The only thing I hate about the manga is the art style. It's about as ugly as Attack on Titan's manga art style. The covers have beautiful pastel like painting designs. For the rest of the manga, it's hard to tell characters apart for me."
10th - Yamada-kun and the 7 Witches
"A harem series that tried hard not to be a harem. Honestly while I enjoyed the manga it should have ended after the first arc. After that the series basically just series just kept repeating the same plot line. I lost track of how many times they did memory loss or regaining memories. Still a good read even if the plot is a bit repetitive."
"If you have read Fairy Tail, this series gives a familiar vibe. It's because the mangaka, Miki Yoshikawa, is the assistant to Hiro Mashima of Fairy Tail. You can see the influences on her work especially the ecchi part. It's a cute, endearing romance series set in school with zany witch powers. The drama and comedy can leave you crying. Like ShadowChaos mention, it does get repetitive after the first major arc. It will be hard to remember a ton of characters for each arc."
11th - Hunter x Hunter
"Who could forget the amazing Netero vs Mereum fight? Probably one of my all time top 5 favorite fights. What I love about HxH is the quarkliness. Its a series that doesn't try too hard but still does a fantastic job. Now if only it would get some regular updates I could see it getting into the top 10."
"HiatusxHiatus I mean HunterxHunter I feel like this is a series that is better off if you wait till it is done before reading considering how often it goes on hiatus. Still the manga is enjoyable even if the art style and release rate is a big drag."
12th - Kingdom
"A classic war manga set in China during the Warring States period. If you like the Dynasty Warriors and its setting you should enjoy this."
"If you are a big history buff, this historical fictional story based on unifing China is a great read. It's a massive manga series with over 500 chapters. If you like it, it can really pull you in. The series revolves around Shin (Xin) whose dreams is be a general of the heavens. That dream carries deep burdens on his shoulders. Be warned, the series does not shy from gore and rape as it shows the horrors of warfare."
13th - Dragon Ball Super Mass
"The latest installation of the Dragon Ball Franchise sees the series sky rocketing into realms its never dreamed of. Our main character is still Goku but with the introduction of some new lovable characters its easy to forget about him. My personal favorite is Beerus-Sama. He comes off as a hard ass yet he has a very important and fundamental job for universe. His love of food makes him easy for the audience to contact with and at time he seems almost goofy. I definitely have a preference for the manga over the anime since the anime is sometimes hard for follow with the typical insane Dragon Ball scaling."
"A sequel to the hit series Dragon Ball. The series returns with heavy screaming, illogical power levels, and time that doesn't make sense. If you like sophisticated plot this isn't for you. That being said if you like MOAR POWER!!! and world shaking fights then look no further."
14th - Attack on Titan
"I am sad that Attack on Titan isn't higher on our list. It really is a great series. Its hard to imagine how truly frightening it would be to live in that world. Just think about it, you live within a giant walled off area where your government is only thinking about themselves and the Church has more secrets than Donald Trump. The terror knowing that if that wall ever fell, certain death will come flooring in. The last thing you'll see, a giant smiling face devouring all that your hold dear."
"The story of a boy named Eren who can turn into a giant ken doll Nudist. Joking aside the series is pretty dark and works under the rule of nobody is safe. Prepare yourself for a blood filled good time."
15th - Keijo!!!!!!!!
"This manga can be described as one of the most fanservice series out there. The plot is just a thinly veiled excuse to cause the fanservice. If you like heavy fanservice this manga is for you however don't expect a complex storyline."
"In 3 words: Vollyball, Boobs, and Ass. This is comedic series that likes to references other anime and manga with crazy techniques involving boobs and butts"
16th - Yona of the Dawn
"I'm actually shocked a shojo title made it to this considering our userbase. I honestly didn't realize we had this many users that read the genre. While my shock aside I guess the series must be doing something right to make it onto the list."
"This is one of my favorite shoujo series. It's a very powerful story following a heroine who lost her kingdom. She is accompanied by 6 gorgeous guys. I'm surprised to see it be here given our community loves shonen and ecchi. Low voter turnout means surprises. Despite being shoujo, it does not shy from action. I was surprised to see lots of blood and one decapitation scene. If you want a shoujo with action like Black Butler or Descendants of Darkness, this one is for you without the usual shoujo rom com you see. "
17th - Monster Musume
"What can I say the series is a harem series with monster girls. The girls all madly love the protagonist for a reason never really made sense out of. That said the series while having a overall plot tells more like a daily life with the main draw being fanservice."
"Monster Girls have made their invasion with the anime a few years ago. Monster Musume started the craze for men who want a little more: wings, tails, and lots of legs. The manga help boost that anime. If you love harem and ecchi with a side of nudity, Monster Musume delivers that with smorgasbord of monsters in the blend. "
18th - Boruto
"Ah yes, the Naruto sequel. Of course this would make the list, riding on the immerse popularity of the Naruto series. I've got to be honest, I wish Naruto would have ended with Kaguya. Everything after that just seems like the publishers are making up villains to fish for money."
"Sequel to the hit series Naruto. Boruto focuses on the son of the Seventh Hokage who wants to set himself apart from his father. While Boruto lacks a solid goal like his father the son is still growing into a fine shinobi during a very changing time."
19th - UQ Holder!
"Maybe next year UQ Holder will make it to the top 10 where is belongs. It is perfect mix of comedy, action and suspense. I particularly loved the racing competition, I thought it was a welcome change from the typical battle format. It looks like UQ Holder will be going into a new arc soon so hopefully the Touta and his gang will get an upgrade and show us some fancy new attacks!"
"The sequel to Negima taking place after 100 years. The manga answers the question of what happened to Negi after the series ends and the fate of his harem. While a sequel to Negima you don't need to have read the series to enjoy it however it will help you understand it better."
20th - Food Wars!
"This is basically a foodporn manga. The cooking sends people into foodgasms and has related visuals when such happens. The manga should never be read with a empty stomach or binge read as it will make you hungry from seeing the different foods."
"Got introduced to the anime series. I never read the manga but I assume it has the same experience with lots of foodgasm with tons of fan service for both guys and gals. The guys will either get stripped or put into costumes. My favorite was magical boys, my favorite foodgasm to date. If you love food and ecchi and comedy, Food Wars is for you. I had fun with Food Wars even though the plot does get stale and predictable."
And that's the top 20 manga as voted for by you the community. Hopefully you enjoyed the little banners Mastermenos made for the top 10 and reading the small commentaries on each series by ZeroRebeloutlaw and Takashichea.
Below you will see the raw votes and total score for each of the above series.
And finally once again thank you very much for voting.
I should really read more manga, also my personal favorite was My Lesbain experience with Depression, and no is not because it has lesbian oddly enough. I just love reading about being a writer artist etc and love the fact that it was based on the author life and relatable as hell.
I'm a bit late with the data. I was hoping to see more feedback since I didn't get much suggestions for the manga compared to the anime poll.
I had to look at the data again since I didn't write up my report. I had to rewrite it.
22 people voted. 14 out of 22 voted up to 5 entries while 7 out of 22 voted up to 10 entries. For the total amount of series voted was 60. A bit
For Dark Horse, we only got 8 votes. 3 votes out of 8 were for Fairy Tail which had more votes than the anime, 2 votes for Made in Abyss. Anime had more Dark Horse votes.
For the results, I expected at least one Manhwa, Manhua, or Manhwa title since we have a niche but big following: Hungryworld, El Directo, Mass, ShadowChaos, Audioninja who are active users of that sub forum. Bit surprising not to see at least one of them come in. Last year, we had God of High School in the top 20's, I believe.
I think that's it. I had more stuff in my head back then for the report. I write them down if I remember.
I tweet these on the official Anime Vice Twitter and put them on MyAnimeList results.

Taka: I see. A global release will benefit it. Gundam did pretty good. The only few franchises that are only popular in Japan but not popular in the west - Yokai Watch comes to mind.

Master Menos: F for Respects. DMX did all his work while suffering from a drug addiction, and I almost never knew until a point. I hope his next life treats him far better.
