Ever since the death of his father, Tanjirou has taken it upon himself to support his mother and five siblings. Although their lives may be hardened by tragedy, they've found happiness. But that ephemeral warmth is shattered one day when Tanjirou finds his family slaughtered and the lone survivor, his sister Nezuko, turned into a demon. Adding to this sorrow, a demon hunter named Tomioka Giyuu arrived and was about to finish Nezuko off, but to his surprise she and Tanjiro started to protect each other. The theme songs have great emotional presence. However, there wasn't much emotional build up and release when the time came for the protagonist's tragic loss of his family. The episode title, cruelty, doesn't make sense. We have a lack of world building with the demons. The demons remind me more of vampires with bit of ghoul as they eat humans, hate sunlight, and to make more demons requires mixing blood.
They should have focused on the protagonist as it should be for the first episode. Instead, we cut into another character for some reason. That felt like a distraction instead of building the series through our protagonist who is the first character we see.
I tried not to compare the Shonen anime adaptation to the likes of Attack on Titan, Seraph of the End, Blue Exorcist but it's hard not to because you have a tragic event but it didn't make much intensity in terms of emotions.
I was about to call giving the enemy a flashback useless but its purpose was to establish the protagonist's sympathy for demons and his naive quest to find a way to restore them.
I got an Allen Walker feeling but this guy feels unnatural with his rage and sudden sympathy. Plus Allen has a deeper connection with Akuma due to his special ability that separates him from other exorcists.
Dislike how it felt a random exception that the sister can sleep. She doesn't need blood. Hope there is another reason. It sounds too convenient or something.
Oh one of the angry characters is voiced by Bakugo.
I saw 4 kids. They mentioned 5. That might be a plot surprise
Their organization is pretty flawed. I hope it is like Claymore but Claymore had more build up and workd building
The battle ends. Of course, these aren't the 12 infamous demons under Kibutsuji because it's too early in the story. I assume this series will be long.
I did like the kickball scene between Nezuko and the Temari demon. I guess the scene where the protagonist feels sorry for the demon touched my heart a bit. I don't really sympathize with the enemies in this show until this part.
There are 3 demons in the house. Though, the two of them are easily dispatched by Zeni and boar. Zeni has a weird gimmick: he faints out of fear and then he kills things subconsciously. I think it will difficult to implement in serious context.
Speaking of context, the tone of this episode was mostly comedic.
Marechi - it's a term popped up in this episode. It refers to rare blood types. Demons love marechi as it helps them evolve.
Old Man Dream: Yeah. After Tenchi Muyo, Masaki Kajishima dabbled into several other harem titles, some of which not being based in the Tenchi timeline, which all have the same resolution of where the male lead "has them all." But they aren't really as popular.

Taka: I need to finish Geminar and GXP. Just cancel FUNimation which leaves me until July 23rd unless there are at least 3 shows that catch my eye from this season.

Old Man Dream: Believe GXP was pulled from Funi's streaming site last year because their digital rights to the series expired. But you should still be able to stream War on Geminar on their site.

Taka: Darn, for some reason I thought it was still there. I finished Geminar. Well, I guess I proceed and watch the rest of those OVAs on CR.

Taka: I think I can write a review on Geminar. I wished I made a discussion thread and kept notes on it. I tend to forget small details and make mistakes when interpreting character actions.

Taka: How strange, when I log in, the colors via Fire Fox disappear. If I log out, I can see the color for hyperlink words. Anyways, been noticing God of High School has been the talk for WWE folks.
