So, recently I came across the weirdness that is SuggsVerse. According to the author, his characters are beyond Omnipotent.
Now, my initial thought was that that is impossible. After all the definition of Omnipotence is the ability to do anything and everything, to be without limits or superior, so its logically impossible for it to be anything greater. But the more I think about it, the more I'm starting to disagree with my initial conclusion. I mean, even Omnipotence itself is logically incoherent, so why do I accept that, but reject the concept of "beyond omnipotence".
My current position is that everything is possible in fiction, even logically incoherent things, as long as its proven that that is the author's intent.
Eva01, Zero, Oh, I do understand that SuggsVerse is rubbish, but it did make me question what I accept as possible in fiction, I just wanted to hear what other people think.
Dank Sinatra, Yes, omnipotence leads to logical paradoxes, but do you accept it as possible in fiction? For example if an author of a book says that one of his characters is omnipotent, will you question it?

Nestle ,I don't believe there's true omnipotence, even in fiction, like I said it's a paradox. We have no true understanding of the power and base it on what we believe to be absolute (but that absolute always leads to the paradox), hell authors who use the term in their own series don't fully grasp what omnipotence is and just use the term to define how unbelievably more powerful a character is compared to everyone else(bleach and the almighty are a good showcase for it), so honestly once you jump the subject of "multiversal" and start going off into the nigh-omnipotent or "truly omnipotent" it just becomes too big of a headache to discuss (suggs is even larger of a headache)
Hell omnipresence and omniscient characters become headaches too(Roger Dunstans omnipresence makes him difficult to discuss in terms of Battle debates because omnipresence is a very difficult thing to put down)
Vaguely recall hearing of Suggsverse. Sounds like a very bad fanfiction for trying to claim there's power beyond omnipotence.
Its actually not fanfiction anymore. Suggs has published books, so its considered just fiction now. But that is besides the point, I made this thread to see what people think of Omnipotence and if its acceptable to have beyond Omnipotent characters in fiction.
Nestle: The concept's too absurd for me to seriously even think about. If you're the all-powerful being of your respective fictional series or franchise and nothing else can challenge you within it, you're pretty much omnipotent. I can at least suspend some disbelief at the thought of an omnipotent being in fiction in spite of the real-life paradoxes that would be associated with believing in one in real life.
Someday I’ll be gone To somewhere that we belong And God has never played his role 'Cause I’m the one who saves my soul It’s a perfect world we’re longing for
Applying something that existed in theism (explaining the concept of god) to a work of fiction I get. Then transitioning that to the battle forums is really muddy especially not that I hate battle users just the forum/debates/community - you get this author trying to sell their work. Mangakas in general don't really create their work for the battle forums. Same for most fictional works. This guy I believe did it on purpose. I doubt it sells well.
Think folks don't really use them in battle threads either.
You can't really apply limits to something that has no limits as mentioned in the opening post.
Taka: My favorite episode in Samurai Champloo was probably Ep 22.

Dream: The one with zombies excavating for treasure? Think that one's the most out there of episodes in the series. Mine's probably the one involving Mugen busting a counterfeit coin ring while trying to get nookie from a ninja girl disguised as a prostitute.

Master Menos: Updates complete. As for a life update, I'm quitting my fast food job soon. Was good for my very first job, but things are getting FAR too chaotic for my tastes.

Dream: Far as job front goes on my end, still waiting on projects to start up with my freelance job. Beyond that, nothing new for other work in my search.

Dream: Just completed Spice and Wolf. Plan to work on a review for it sometime tomorrow. Too late to have any inhibition to get one done from my end.

Dream: Last anime I will be covering is Gankutsuou: Count of Monte Cristo. Will start watching it tomorrow. Not sure how much longer I can keep myself up at this point.

Taka: Depending on my energy, I can watched up to 2 AM. Usually with work, I fall asleep on anime series that don't have a lot of action.

Master Menos: Finally got out of the fast food job. It was a graceful exit, but to be honest, I'll miss some of those guys. Got a sprained ankle from it since September, so I'll finally focus on healing that back at the family home.

HungryWorld: Well if anyone remembers what happened to Pingu in the City, with it being joke 10/10 scored on MAL just to get it into the top 10 anime... well now is Ishuzoku Reviewers' turn. Seems that in response to Funimation's cancel people boosted the score hard.

Taka: What? That sounds so weird.

Master Menos: It's damn awesome to be honest. It shot to 1st Place!

Dream: On the subject of MAL, it looks like the admin are planning to tweak their scoring system for titles to reduce the likelihood of voters artificially inflating the ranking of certain titles.

Master Menos: My V-Day present will be belated this year because I "Had some trouble with ol' Johnny." (That's your hint.)

Dream: The joys of adulthood. Joking aside, plan to at least attempt to wrap up Gankutsuou sometime early to mid next week so I can get done with my Funi voted titles. Afterward, not doing any more voting for a while considering how long this had been taking.

Dream: Done with Gankutsuou. Will be working to get a review up for it by sometime tonight.
