This will be a short review without spoilers. Though, I have difficulty writing longer reviews. For casual fans, I do recommend checking out season 2 or give it a try.
Season 2 is brutal if not even more brutal and full of suffering. We met a myriad of new characters while expanding and developing our old characters especially Subaru. Subaru finally got his backstory, so we understand why he acts like the way he does in season 1. Ironically, he gets the lesson of self love from the most unlikely person. For other old characters, I feel personally Beatrice didn't get much payoff. They were building her up. I feel it was rushed due to how I felt no sympathy or sadness. In a show, where characters are brutally killed off where you feel a multitude of emotions. They build up Beatrice and then Roswaal, who is such an enigma. Otto also gets character development as Subaru gains a new ally in him. I won't say much about Emilia. We still haven't uncover much of her but we see new sides of her.
This season features all the witches. The witch whom took the most screen time is Echnida, the Witch of Greed. We see how her character influences Subaru and others and how she is so ingrained into the season's plot. She's not the antagonist, if I'm not mistaken. Her work and presence is part of the season where it plays in shaping events. The other Witches' creations also gives Subaru and characters hell, too.
Because of the groundhog element in this show, it is utilize very well as we see sides of characters, brutal sides of them. I won't spoil them. Due to the pandemic, this season was supposed to run on April 1, 2020 (Subaru's birthday) and end on September 23, 2020 (Emilia's birthday). It's a shame we won't get to see that play out as that would have added a fateful synergy to the 2 cour season 2 anime series. It really shows you how invested the staff and creator to demonstrate how the series can go in full circle.
Graphic Violence Content
We can assume the TV version is water down for its BD content like season 1. The brutality we seen in season 2 has kicked up a notch. One scene is being eaten alive. That was the one of the most disturbing scenes.
Stabbing, decapitation, dismemberment is all common or done off screen.
There is one scene. It's not sexualized. The quarter beast human hybrid/ cat maid, Frederica, gets nude to transform.
Echnida telling Subaru that he's drinking her fluids in the tea is a verbal scene. I do notice a lot of ecchi fans go crazy over that scene.
I really enjoy this season 2. This is one of the best isekai anime series I have seen in years. I hope you guys and gals enjoy it too!
Old Man Dream: 26 episodes, actually. Took a week for me to finish. Actually got through the first half quick last weekend. Slowed a bit over this week because things in real life got a bit hectic.
