Re:Zero -Starting Life in Another World- author Tappei Nagatsuki has been playing with IF chapters, branching from different decisions than the ones that the canonical story ultimately took. In fact, the bonus for buying the complete anime series on Japanese Blu-ray is a full 290-page IF novel. The premise that Subaru and Rem fled Lugnica for the more Japanese country of Kararagi factors in heavily. Re:Zero light novel 9 is out September 25th. And, in the middle of the book is an IF chapter with...
A look at Natsuki Subaru, Natsuki Rem, Natsuki Rigel (almost named Vega, but Subaru he quickly decided against it as he didn't want his son growing up to be stronger than himself) and Natsuki Spica.
It's episode 1 of season 2. I was looking through it and finally found the time stamp. It goes by pretty quick.
The answers Subaru and Emilia need to find are all at the Sanctuary where Rem took the villages and Roswaal's whereabouts. We are hit with a lot of things that will get explanations later on at the sanctuary: Roswaal's intentions, the meaning of the gospel, the witch factor (for some reason, killing a sin has a consequence). Beatrice doesn't want to explain to Subaru. We witness rare moments of Beatrice crying.
That village is home to demihumans like Frederica who is half beast half human. When the necklace glows, Subaru grabs it and immediately vanishes, sending him away from his companions, Otto, and Emilia. There we meet this character.
She's Echnida who looks like Emilia. I didn't expect another individual who looks like Emilia like the rumored and infamous Satella the witch.
The opening theme song featured at the end of the episode shows all the deaths of Subaru. That was cool. This hypes this season as we are to expect more brutal things in store.
We reached Santuacy. Before we do, Subaru was transported to a world or dimension where the witch of Greed, Echidna, occupied. We learned from Echidna that there are witches for every sin just like there is an arch bishop. Turns out the witch of envy killed and ate every witch. To have the villagers move back home, Emilia has to undergo a trial to break the demi human barrier. Subaru can take the trial as well.
Quite an episode for character development and backstory of Subaru - truly an emotional episode. Though, not the true backstory as it was still a trial and Subaru had time to reconcile with his tragic separation of his parents (he's stuck in this world).
I don't know how much the anime cut out. An episode long backstory seems to be the right amount of pacing. You don't want to drag things out.

We had snippets of moments that added to their family from their hatred of green peas to their love of mayonnaise.
The family is quite close. Subaru's shut in/hikikomori came from being in his father's shadow, wanting to be popular. Then, he couldn't strive to be the best and lost motivation in himself.
His father had a great scene with Subaru gaining closure.
A lot of screen time was devoted to the father. The mother's scene was short but had the same emotional impact as Subaru gains closure with her over how he can't make it up to her. He won't forget his mother and father.
Rem appears while Emilia appears more of an apparition. Both spur moments in Subaru.
Echnida lies in wait for Subaru at school.
29 minutes of an episode. There were no post credit scene. The ending theme song took up 3 minutes.
Ep 30 is not as long as Ep 29 nor is it very emotional.
Turns out there are multiple trials. Subaru can handle confronting his past compared to Emilia who cries a lot. Garfield wants Subaru to do it but Subaru wants Emilia to prove herself to the villagers.
We had a heated dispute from Subaru who blames Roswaal for not being there. Roswaal is aware of the witch cult attacks and wanted Emilia and Subaru to handle it on their own and prove themselves. He believes in Subaru. Subaru is angried as he had suffer failure and death on top of his inferiority complex. Roswaal instructs Subaru to say a key phrase to Beatrice.
Seems Subaru can't get back to Sanctuary to help with Emilia as we hit our 2nd death and problem: Elsa. She's at the mansion.

That was a weird exchange from Subaru who is fiercely in love with Emilia
KADOKAWA's official anime YouTube channel has posted a three-minute music video for "Realize," the OP theme song for the ongoing second season of the TV anime Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World-, performed by 23-year-old anison singer Konomi Suzuki. To embody Suzuki's own thought on the song and the characters' desire in the anime story, the clip was produced with the maximum firepower.
As her 18th single, "Realize" will be released on August 26, 2020. This is the fourth time that she has performed a theme song for the Re:ZERO franchise, following "Redo" (TV anime first season OP), "Yell! ~Kuchibiru Kara wa Hajimaru Mahou" (PS VITA/PS4 game Re:ZERO -DEATH OR KISS OP), and "Relight" (for Pachi-slot Re:ZERO − Starting Life in Another World).
After Subaru dies a 2nd time, we reach a point where Subaru has to strategize and work out a solution to solve it just like past arcs. His respawn point is after the first trial and near a traumatized Emilia. The last timeline had characters evolving to react differently from the current timeline
1) Garfiel in the first timeline after seeing Emilia fail her trials again and again trusts Subaru and wants him to go in Emilia's place. 2) Subaru was supportive of Emilia and had spent a lot of time consoling her. That was lost in this timeline as Subaru tries to rush. This unintentionally causes Emilia to believe Subaru doesn't believe Emilia could pass the trials
Emilia has to pass the 3 trials on her own because to prove herself, Roswaal's orders, and other characters
Subaru moves back to the mansion a bit earlier to interrogate Frederica. Without evidence, he didn't get far. Frederica has an oath that he cannot divulge why she gave the stone. She doesn't know the teleporting trap nor the situation in Sanctuary. I can't blame Subaru for being suspicious of Frederica because back then, one of the people close to him was the one who was murdering him, Rem.
Ram gets a off screen time with Rem. Ram would sacrifice Rem to prioritize going back to Roswaal.
Fan service - Frederica, Petra's hugging scene
Petra gets a lot of screen time and unfortunately, bears most of the brutality on screen of whatever glimpses we see. Subaru was still clutching to her dismembered hand.
Subaru tries to save Rem as his last attempt because everyone else is presumably dead. Ironically, he opens the door to Beatrice or Beatrice saves him. This leaves Elsa in the room with Rem.
We get clues and questions.
This will definitely be a long one considering Elsa and Sanctuary.
We don't know what triggers Elsa's appearance. She was there earlier as she had seen them coming earlier than expected.
Old Man Dream: Before jumping into Cinderella, found a means to see Make Mine Music. Did have to literally jump around between several different streaming sites to see all its segments. But nearly done. Not sure if I'll get around to reviewing it tonight. But...
