This was a packed episode. Subaru and Otto team up to enact a plan. Because Subaru cannot enter the trials, he has to help Emilia remember her memories. Puck's contract was the seal on Emilia's memories. Emilia has to overcome this without Puck. I like how Puck refers to Subaru as second to him for having the most love to Emilia.
One surprise was I didn't expect was one of the Ryuzu clones, there was an outcast that hang out with Garfiel. It makes sense since that clone was the one who imprison Subaru. We get to know more about Garfiel but not so much. It was all about Emilia.
Our episode title gets two. I am assuming we are dividing the episode into two which is rare.
Otto's ability to talk to animals reminds me if he's Aquaman but on land. We talked to CG bugs. When his older brother finds out Otto can speak to animals, his older brother warned him to not reveal his divine blessing as others might exploit him. In town, Otto's younger sibling was bullied for lying about Otto.
Otto tries to find his place in life as he cannot make friends with fellow humans. He eventually finds his calling being a lone merchant. We find out how Otto was captured by Betelguese. One of the big wolf guys rescue Otto who was tied up in a cave. We see a rare moment of Otto crying. He cried last time when his mother hugged him.
Oh Otto's Divine Protection's side effects is nose bleeds. The theme song plays.
When Otto gets captured, Ram rushes to his rescue. I'm surprised Ram can fend off Garfiel. Everyone's bleeding.
Our 2nd part hits. Subaru goes to have a one on one conversation with Emilia. We get this awkward scene of Subaru telling her he loves her and insulting her too. Subaru keeps repeating it. "Damp purple jewels for her eyes" and a bunch of other things - there are some weird stuff Subaru spews it. I guess because of Subaru's shut in nature. Emilia gets mad and yells at him for being selfish, breaking his promise.
We get a lot of arguing.
Emilia doesn't get to stand out on her which I feel might be detrimental to her character. This half of the episode was Subaru's love and devotion. We get the kiss scene.
The episode was fifty about Garfiel and fifty about Subaru. Well Garfiel had 80% since he gets to have his backstory animated in a flashback. We learned Garfiel's age. Anime characters don't really match their looks and age. I thought he was Subaru's age. Also, we learned where was Subaru, he was vandalizing Echnida's temple with drawings of Puck and cheerful messages for Emilia. I didn't expect Subaru to have a new magic spell or ability. He's pretty ordinary. He can only do Shamac.
Last episode review - Emilia didn't get her character evolution. Next episode will be her spotlight.
Young Emilia is definitely different from her current self. I'm bad at describing people's personalities. She's very assertive and bold after sneaking out of the house to investigate what Mother Fortuna and the others are doing. She pouts a lot and acts spoiled. She has some verbal ticks that are different. I assume her father and mother are dead.
Echnida gets very snarky on Emilia with her influence on Subaru and then Beteguese.
We got introduced to 2 more characters who might appeared earlier. This time, they got screentime, Mother Fortuna and Archi. Mother Fortuna and Guese are the most focused ones aside from Emilia. Mother Fortuna has an age complex. She doesn't want to be treated as a child by Guese or be considered very old.
The Regulus guy comes out of nowhere at the end of the episode. Just after Mother Fortuna promises to tell Emilia about her parents and probably the seal.
I wished I had time to screen cap and add to my comments. While I thought we have a massacre because of Regulus, Pandora stole the episode other than Emilia being the main focus. Pandora is a mystery. She was able to appear after being exploded by Regulus. She has this strange personality yet calming.
Fortuna and Geuse spent their last moments fighting together. We don't see them dying yet.
Emilia goes to the seal thinking it will save her mother. We saw Archie's last moments. For some reason, there is a snake monster while the elf village is being attacked.
In the above Tweet, Nagatsuki explained that the opening is "full of spoilers, so it couldn't have been played from the start of the second part." For those watching along, after seeing the opening it was obvious that it is full of spoilers for the stories that proceeded the 6th episode, with many many spoilers that would have blown minds if released with the first episode of the season, but it is nice to have confirmation from the creator himself! It was also nice to finally hear "Long shot" after all this time!
We witness the full backstory of Roswaal. What I didn't expect was Roswaal being in love with Echnida. I had thought it was a form of revering her but not like a cultist because he was following the book from Echnida. Echnida's face was never revealed fully.
Beatrice also gets some character development while getting her relationship with Ryuzu. She's a tsundere.
Subaru and Roswaal are similar in that they are doing this for someone they loved. However, the two are opposites in how they see values in the romantic bonds. Roswaal sees it as a weakness while Subaru sees it as a strength.
Subaru was not able to convince Roswaal to call of the attack on the mansion.
Ram's character had the spotlight despite the title and Emilia and Roswaal having bulk of the dialogue. They keep her ambiguous. I wasn't sure if she was still loyal to Roswaal or not. She wants to free him from Echnida's influence. Ram was there to stop Roswaal from summoning the snowstorm.
Emilia demonstrates how Subaru is different because Subaru points out imperfections of Emilia.
I'm going to need to go through Roswaal because his character is puzzling for me to understand. I know why he's doing it. But why inflict so much damage on Emilia and Subaru and everyone else in the process?
We get a reunion of Subaru with Beatrice and Petra and then Garfiel defending Frederica.
Taka: I remember watching Devils' Line. I can't remember any issues I had. I have to look at my comments.

Old Man Dream: One of those familiar vampire stories in a modern setting where the male lead hates himself because of his vampiric nature and is in love with a human woman. The execution of the whole story is pretty clumsy and from what I gather, the anime is...

Old Man Dream: And adding more insult to injury, the new Injustice animated movie is a big mess.

Taka: I read through my comments. Bloodlust and rapes along with innuendos. The romance I never mentioned of - with the details you mentioned - I remembered now it was pretty bad.

Old Man Dream: I'm thankfully pretty far in the series. Just have 3 more episodes, which I should get taken care of by tomorrow evening. Kind of regret thinking this would be a good title to dabble into for Halloween.

Taka: Thanks for the correction. For some reason I thought the video game was loosely based on the comic books and treated the two as separate stories. With fighting games, I assumed they had more flexibility due to different endings.
