Note: This review is part of the "Before Redemption" reviewing series. This is for Day II and contains no spoilers.
This is the first season to the Queen's Blade franchise and is a 12 episode ecchi, action and fantasy show about a runaway countess heir heading to embark on a grueling journey to the capital where the current queen resides. The reason for this is because there is a competition where female warriors from all over the land are going to fight for the control of the nation of Mapa. Not all of them are with good intentions, however.
Storyline The storyline isn't that great and it doesn't move much as the quest to the capital (and all the boobage) takes up the whole show, but to compensate for it, it gives out a lot of world building and grants focus to many characters; most especially the main ones. In fact, nearly every participant alongside a few angels gain at least some development. There was also a lot of dramatic events for Leina displayed and most of them range from rather dumb to decent at best. Speaking of participants...
Characters Surprisingly, many of the characters turned out likable with the exception of the Vance sisters and Nanael. Leina wasn't really that good of a character until later in the show and turned out to be the least problematic out of the Vance sisters while Elina and Claudette are some seriously possessive pricks (with one of them actually fixing her act in the second half). Nanael turned out to be quite annoying, and some of her comic relief was hit-or-miss, but the ones that do hit are very effective just like all of Setora's were. Also, the least favorite of the antagonists for this season was Airi since the other villains did manage to outshine her in most aspects. The queen was also very notable, but she only had a minuscule amount of screen time.
The most notable support characters that I didn't already mention were Tomoe, Risty (she is a main character, however), Alleyne, Cattelya, and Melpha (even though her screen time was very thin here). Their personalities on the most part were very good and turned out to be very good fighters (and service gals) throughout the show. (Despite Cattelya rivaling Kirika Misono on the upstairs department. But unlike the latter, I didn't mind Cattelya one bit due to her personality and the fact that she's much more proportionate. (Ah, anime logic.)) The rest of the notable villains were Menace, Melona and especially Echidna for being the most effective villain of this season in all aspects. All three of them were some real lookers too.
Pros and Cons This is most likely a comfort zone for those that are into heavy fanservice and nudity (especially for those that like their ladies covered in oil). A lot of the scenes for this show also turned out to be unintentionally funny as it went along and a few select battles turn out to bring up some character development for the better. The art style is very nice, but a lot of the animation wasn't too up to par and the musical score was decent at the most, but not too grating either.
First off, those that aren't into heavy fanservice and nudity should've stayed out at the first sight of the key visual since you are going to see a lot of sexy parts. In fact, the fanservice overshadowed everything else in this anime to the point of putting off the audience that are in it for anything else. Prepare to feel worse for the action scene crowd, as most of the fights looked rather terrible. One scene looked like two of the characters were just pushing each other with their swords for example.
Final Verdict This series gets a 5/10 from the treasure chest in the prize room. I admit, that I did have a lot of dumb fun watching this show, but it didn't turn out to be that satisfactory. Considering that I've seen much worse than this, I am willing to see the rest of the franchise. For those that still want to check this out, feel free to do so, but don't take it too seriously, or you'll be worse off.
Current Situation: I wanted another excuse to use Enterprise as an avatar again.
I personally like Nanael, but yeah the yuri cat sister is annoying. WHile I did like the first season the Elina wasn't that great of a character, but she does become better in the next season, and they focus less on her which also helps alot, also more action.
Also you should totally see the 6 ova which are really great (vanquished queen is something you should watch with your own discretion as the fan service get a bit too heavy as they do take dark turn which can be off putting for others).
Taka: I see. A global release will benefit it. Gundam did pretty good. The only few franchises that are only popular in Japan but not popular in the west - Yokai Watch comes to mind.

Master Menos: F for Respects. DMX did all his work while suffering from a drug addiction, and I almost never knew until a point. I hope his next life treats him far better.
