Last night, I was reading HUSH which I bought from Long Beach Comic Con 2016 on the note that Kevin Conroy whose panel I attended stated it was a good comic book story arc that he wanted to see adapted for an animated film.
I decided to take his wish as a recommendation to read something new from Batman's comics. To let you know, I'm not a heavy comic book reader. I only got to comic books only through the 1990's cartoon adaptations of comic books. As of now, I still prefer animated series and films of comic books than reading actual comic books. I still step out of personal zone to try something new. My first actual comic book was Killing Joke. After that, I took Taichokage's recommendation to read Wonder Woman New 52. I'm grateful to Taichokage for opening my eyes to comic books.
This will be a short review since I have a lot of projects to do. Thank you for your time and I welcome any recommendations and positive criticism in helping me to improve in doing reviews.
HUSH is published by DC Comics and written by Jeph Loeb, penciled by Jim Lee, inked by Scott Williams, and colored by Alex Sinclair. I got the collection edition that has everything in one volume.
This story focus on a new villain called HUSH. While the story fleshes out Bruce's childhood friend (you will know it's him), it also focus on a lot of relationships of Batman and Bruce with his Bat family, friends, Superman and allies, and villains. This story arc focused his romantic relationship with Catwoman. I like how it's not crammed too much and there is little flashbacks or panels that help give exposition on those characters in case you are new to the Batman like who was Joker, who was Harold, who was Leslie Thompkins. That's a good thing for anyone who hasn't read a lot of Batman comics. You don't have to worry about missing or needing background knowledge. This story arc references to Death in the Family and Killing Joke and it explains the results of how it plays in this story arc. This is a big plus for new comic books readers.
For the cons, I find HUSH to be a good villain and better central antagonist, but I didn't like how the real mastermind was Riddler and how Batman deduce it was Riddler. For villains like Joker, the motives of Joker was to screw up stuff for Batman such as killing Jason Todd and shooting Barbara Gordon. Joker has good reasons that make him a good villain. For HUSH, I felt his motives were shallow. Same goes for Riddler. I do like how they manipulate both Batman's allies and enemies in trying to kill Batman. Another thing is how a lot of villains and people know Batman's identity. That felt a bit strange since I come from watching the cartoon and that versions of Batman take secret identity with serious precautions as it has dire consequences.
If you aren't a Batman x Catwoman fan and like Batman with another heroine or hero, you might not like this relationship. I'm neutral, and I haven't seen a lot of stories with this relationship. I can't judge whether it was realistic and natural. The cartoon series I grew up, the Justice League, teased a lot of Batman and Wonder Woman. I learned this pairing wasn't as common in comic books. I do remember Catwoman in Bruce Tim's cartoon series, but it wasn't as emphasized like HUSH's.
Overall, this is a good story arc. I did enjoy it, but I feel the real villains weren't as compelling. I recommend to any fans. The violence is not too disturbing. I would say it's PG-13.
Dream: Looks like a remake of Higurashi no Naku Koro ni will be airing in July. The original seiyuu from the 2000s series will reprise their roles for the remake and judging from the animation, looks like it will have more polish to it compared...

Dream: At least in New York right now, they're not enforcing it. But non-essential employers who aren't abiding by shutting down at this point will be fined and shut down at this point.

CosmicNoirTear: Everything closed on my part. I live by a bunch of shopping centers. All of the are ghost towns. Hopefully means most people where I live are taking this seriously. Also got laid off from my job two weeks ago.

Taka: I think the only thing not closed for mass gathering other than essential services would be funerals in my area. The mayor and staff have been pretty busy in clarifying things in press releases. Edit: my mistake. Funerals are closed.
